Mitsubishi L300 Overview
The oldest vehicle of Mitsubishi Philippines in current lineup, the L300 pickup truck has come a long way, with its existence here in the country for more than three decades now. While not much has changed in the Mitsubishi L300 in all these years, this commercial light-duty pickup truck has relied on its core strengths of durability and reliability, making it a preferred choice for fleet and cargo owners.
Mitsubishi L300 History
The Mitsubishi L300 is one nameplate that has been in usage for different vehicles in different parts of the world. In the context of the Philippines, the Mitsubishi L300 started off its journey back in 1987, when the Japanese auto major introduced a light-duty pickup truck based on the second generation Mitsubishi Celica people mover van.
The Mitsubishi L300 attracted many potential buyers with its simplicity, whether it comes to its mechanicals under the skin, the visual appeal, or its ease of driving. This commercial pickup truck went on sale in the Philippines for the next 22 years without any significant change to its exterior appearance but had minor changes to its interior cabin to keep up with changing times.
In the year 2009, Mitsubishi introduced the first-ever facelift of the L300, with the front fascia being revised significantly to make it look quite different from the erstwhile version. The second facelift of the Mitsubishi L300 arrived in 2019, which again saw subtle revisions to the front styling, a major tune-up to its powertrain, and slight enhancement in its interior cabin.
Mitsubishi L300 Highlight
The latest avatar of the Mitsubishi L300 retains the silhouette of the original L300 which was introduced back in 1987, but now sports heavily revised front end styling, comprising of a number of horizontal lines, which makes it look purposeful.
Now, the Mitsubishi L300 is sold as a cab and chassis model, which can be used both as a load hauler as well as a people mover, with a closed compartment with windows mounted on its rear deck. The Mitsubishi L300 is now being offered in a single standard variant, which is powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox and pumps out maximum power and torque outputs of 100 PS and 200 Nm respectively.
The Mitsubishi L300 is positioned as a utilitarian vehicle, so it comes with just the most basic of all features and not the much more modern ones. The list of standard equipment offered in the Mitsubishi L300 consists of a manual air conditioner and a single DIN audio system with two speakers.
Mitsubishi L300 Safety
In the name of safety, the Mitsubishi L300 comes with just seat belts for the two cabin occupants in its cab body. This is one big miss as the Mitsubishi L300 is seriously under-equipped and does not get even airbags and ABS which are kind of must-haves in the modern world.
Mitsubishi L300 Consumption
The 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine of the Mitsubishi L300 is one trustworthy engine not only for the good amount of torque it produces, but also the fuel efficiency it returns. With a promising fuel economy of 15.43 km/l, the Mitsubishi L300 is one of the most fuel-efficient light-duty pickup trucks available in the country today.

- Torquey diesel engine – The Mitsubishi L300’s diesel engine might haven’t seen major changes in all these years, but it continues to be one extremely tractable and fuel efficient engine.
- Cheap to buy and run – Thanks to its lower sticker price and the best-in-class fuel efficiency it promises, the Mitsubishi L300 is one affordable vehicle in terms of the ownership experience.
Mitsubishi L300 Cons
- Terrible lack of features – The Mitsubishi L300 shows that it is one seriously dated vehicle with the lack of features it has. It doesn’t get even the most basic of the safety features, which is quite unacceptable in the modern world.
