Tata Manza Review
The Tata Manza is a modern sedan produced by Indian car manufacturer Tata Motors. The Manza is currently in its first generation and is available in eight variants (four for each of its diesel and petrol engines). It is powered by either a 1.4 liter Safire petrol engine or a 1.3 liter Quadrajet diesel engine. Its diesel variants are known as LS, LX, VX and EX. The Manza comes in a 5-door sedan body style and is similar in design to the Tata Indigo. The Manza is also known as the Club Class Sedan in the global automotive market.
Tata Manza History
The Manza first appeared on the market in 2009 and was relaunched in 2012 as the Manza Club Class (global market). The Manza came in 4 trim levels when it was first released: the Aqua, Aura, Aura ABS and Elan, with the Aqua being the base model and the Elan being the top of the line variant. After the refresh, these variants were known as the LS (Aqua), LX (Aura), VX (Aura ABS) and the EX (Elan). In the Philippines, the older variant names are still used. The Tata Zest, launched in 2014, is based on the Manza’s platform.
Tata Manza Specs and Performance
In the Philippines, the Tata Manza is available in either a diesel or petrol engine. The diesel engine is an In-Line 4, 1.3 L Quadrajet that has a capacity of 1248 cc. It gives 90 Ps at 4000 rpm and 200 Nm at 1750-3000 rpm. The Petrol variant is an In-Line 4 Safire that provides 90 Ps at 4000 RPM and 116 Nm at 4750 rpm. The Safire has a capacity of 1368 cc. Both variants come with 5 + 1 speed manual transmission and the Safire can reach a top speed of 165 kph.
As for the Tata Manza suspension system, an independent, lower wishbone, MacPherson strut type with coil spring and anti-roll bar is equipped at the front while a semi-independent twist beam system with coil spring and hydraulic shock absorbers is installed at the rear. The vehicle also makes use of ventilated disk brakes for the front and drum brakes for the back. The rest of the Tata Manza specs can be found below, for your reference:

Tata Manza Design
When people hear the words “Tata car,” probably the first thing that pops into mind is a cheap vehicle meant for public utility use. But once you lay your eyes on the Tata Manza, such first impressions immediately get thrown out the window, replaced with thoughts of style, luxury and roominess. Indeed, the Manza is proof of how the young Indian car manufacturer has matured over the years. Take a tour of how the Manza looks from inside out:
Tata Manza Exterior
The Tata Manza’s exterior is curvaceous and streamlined, emphasizing its “next generation sedan” moniker. Its high set almond-shaped headlamps give it an air of exclusivity that compliments the masculinity of its overall design. Elegant in its poise, the look of the top-end model is enhanced by chrome accents at the grille, bumpers, side moldings, door handles and at the rear number plate. Standard exterior features include almond-shaped three barreled headlamps, a rub rail and hood with chrome inserts, and 185/60 R 15 tubeless radial alloy wheels.
Tata Manza Interior
The Tata Manza’s interior is dual-toned, with an impressive amount of features. Perks on the front cabin side of things include a contemporary center instrument cluster, driver infotainment system, steering wheel with controls, power windows and steering, vanity mirror and sun visor for both driver and front passenger, and illuminated keyhole ring. Rear passengers get to enjoy additional creature comforts such as a back seat center armrest, cup holders, a heating and air conditioning system and contoured rear seats for extra comfort. The Manza also comes with Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone use and trunk space that has a 460 liter capacity.
Tata Manza Color Options
The Tata Manza is available in five stylish colors. Clearly, Tata Motors wants the Manza to be a step up from its other budget-conscious models, as these are colors that you’re more likely to find in upscale trims and models of other vehicles:
- Porcelain White
- Arctic Silver
- Spice Red
- Infinity Black
Tata Manza Safety Features
As with all Tata models, the Manza has more safety and security features than one would expect at its price range. Safety features installed in the vehicle are more commonly found in vehicles that break the P1 million barrier. Considering that the Manza doesn’t even exceed P750,000, the availability of these safety features are a huge accomplishment in itself.
- Dual airbags
- Anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution
- Immobilizer, ignition-cum-steering lock
- Side impact protection beams on front and rear doors
- Remote-controlled keyless entry
Tata Manza Safety Ratings
The Tata Manza has yet to be evaluated by an established car safety testing group.
Tata Manza Features: The Highlights
Just like many of its stable mates, the Tata Manza’s best feature is its affordability. However, there’s also its class leading spaciousness and ease-of-maintenance to speak of. Its cabin is light and airy, helped by its large windscreen, while its generous trunk adds to the package. Replacement parts are also very affordable and easily available. Some other features that really make this car a contender in its segment are its great fuel economy and excellent feature package that is surprising for its price.
Tata Manza Compared to Other Subcompacts in the Philippines
The sedan category is one of the most highly contested vehicle segments in the Philippines, with many models having their own sedan variant. In the Philippine vehicle market, the Tata Manza faces some stiff competition from the likes of the Honda City, Suzuki Dzire, and Toyota Camry. The Manza, although a newcomer, is giving these established models a run for their money with its decent mileage and exceptional features.
- Tata Manza vs Honda City- The Honda City maybe be more equipped to deal with a variety of terrains, but the Tata Manza has a better performance overall.
- Tata Manza vs Suzuki Dzire- The Suzuki Dzire has good steering, but the Manza has a more spacious cabin.
- Tata Manza vs Toyota Camry- The Camry may win out on overall comfort, but the Manza wins in terms of features.
Best reasons to Buy a Tata Manza
Overall, the Tata Manza is definitely a car worth test driving if you are in the market for a sedan that won’t break the bank. It will suit midsized families and professional couples due to its:
- Fuel economy
- Advanced features
- Excellent ride quality
- Strong look
Some reviewers have stated that the Manza does not possess the refinement that other cars in its segment possess. It can also get quite noisy in the cabin at high speeds.
