Porsche 911 Carrera RS to star in ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’

The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 34.8 will appear on the silver screen as the Autobot “Mirage” in the upcoming "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" movie.

“Mirage,” who fights for the forces of good alongside Optimus Prime, will wow moviegoers and car enthusiasts alike as they watch the ‘90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new faction of Transformers — the Maximals.

“The 911 Carrera RS 3.8 is perfect not just because the film plays in 1994, but also because of the character traits of ‘Mirage.’ He’s a tough character with a good heart and a bit of a rebellious streak now and again,” commented Porsche Marketing Communications Head Oliver Hoffman.

The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 is an exceptionally rare historic car. Since the German carmaker only built 55 samples of the automobile, the film’s production team built five picture cars that look exactly like the 911 Carrera RS 3.8.

However, to faithfully recreate the authentic engine sound for “Mirage,” the film crew used a real Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8.

“It was important to us to represent the sound of the 911 model depicted in the film. It was extremely ambitious due to the number of cars needed from a limited production 911, but we are thrilled with the result and hope audiences are too,” Porsche Cars North America Marketing Vice President Ayesha Coker stated.

Each of the five aforementioned recreated models had their own specific roles. One car, for example, was modified to go backward at higher speeds; another was specifically prepared for stunt sequences, yet another one was controlled outside the driver's cab for scenes that focus on the artist inside.

The Transformers: Rise of the Beasts movie will arrive in theaters this June.
