Tata Motors to supply 6x6 trucks from the Indian Army

Indian carmaker Tata Motors recently won a contract from the Indian Army to supply 1,239 units of high mobility multi-axle 6x6 trucks. The deal is considered to be the single largest order for an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

The vehicles will be used to handle and transport operational equipment, ammunition and other military equipment.

Developed as a high-mobility all-terrain vehicle, the Tata 6x6 can drive into the most challenging terrains whether on-road or off-road. All units completed a 25-month trial duration that includes water-fording, multiple terrain drives and endurance runs on Tata’s Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) torture track.

The Tata 6x6 truck is also easy to operate, maintain and has readily available spare parts. It comes with a central tire inflation system (CTIS), which allows the driver to adjust the tire pressure anytime and ensure mobility in Indian deserts conditions and other terrains especially when carrying a heavy payload. Tata also installed a Self-Recovery Winch that assists in extracting the vehicle during rescue operations.

Inside, the vehicle cabin is modular with HVAC (Heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning). It’s also fully-ready for up-armoring to increase its defense. The Tata 6x6 is also capable of sustaining speeds of up to 40-kilometers per hour on cross country roads because of its high ground clearance which allows better maneuverability.

Vernon Noronha, Vice President of Tata Motors Defense and Government Business Division, said, “We at Tata Motors are extremely proud to have bagged the single largest order, among Indian OEM’s from the Indian army, for the most technologically advanced High Mobility Load Carrier system ever built here in India. The order is a validation of our strategy and growth potential, for our durable and extensive range of defense vehicles, designed and developed with our evolving customers, including that of security forces across the world. As leading suppliers of mobility solutions to the country’s security forces, we will shortly commence delivery of these high-mobility vehicles.”

The Tata Motors 6X6 High-Mobility MAV can be customized for a wide range of applications such as CGT (Common Gun Tower), MBRL (Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher), MFU (Missile Firing Unit), MSV (Missile Service Vehicle), FSV (Field Service Vehicle), SRSAM (Short Range Surface to Air Missile), QRSAM (Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile) vehicle, LLQRM (Low Level Quick Reaction Missile) vehicle, and MRV (Medium Recovery Vehicle).

In the Philippines, Tata Motors is distributed by Pilipinas Taj Autogroup Inc.
