Mitsubishi Eclipse for sale | Mitsubishi Eclipse price | Yellow Mitsubishi Eclipse

The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sport compact car that comes in two body styles: a 2-door lift back coupe and a 2-door convertible. It once appeared alongside the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution as part of its Japanese car manufacturer’s fleet. It was eventually removed from Mitsubishi’s lineup after it failed to catch up with its sport compact car rivals.

The first generation Eclipse (1990-1994) is hands down the most beloved of all the Eclipse’s generations. This generation was initially offered with a choice of a four-cylinder or a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The 2nd-gen Eclipse, which was the first model produced in Illinois, was more powerful than its predecessor, but many claimed it was also bulkier and less attractive.

The Eclipse grew even larger in its third generation, which lasted from 2000 to 2005. When the fourth generation was introduced in 2006, the new model took much of its inspiration from the second generation but maintained a fascia consistent with Mitsubishi’s corporate styling features at that time.

2012 was the last year that the Mitsubishi Eclipse went into production, so getting your hands on a 2016 Mitsubishi Eclipse will be an utter impossibility. The last Eclipse ever made was painted Kalapana Black based on input from Mitsubishi’s Facebook community. As the last Eclipse, it had the privilege to be equipped with special 18-inch Dark Argent alloy wheels and one-of-a-kind graphics.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Review in the Philippines

Mitsubishi Eclipse Specs and Performance

A base four-cylinder engine with 162 horsepower is standard in GS and Sport models, but a much better 265-hp, 3.8-liter V-6 upgrade is installed in GT coupes and convertibles. Gas mileage is pretty frugal in the four-cylinder Mitsubishi Eclipse engine variants, but the V6 Mitsubishi Spyder leans toward SUV territory at 16-in the city, 24 on-the-highway MPG.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Suspension employs a MacPherson strut with stabilizer bar at the front and a multi-link system with stabilizer bar at the rear. Ample torque lends it some muscle car qualities, and the five-speed automatic performs decently. Ride quality is exceptional, thanks to a lengthy wheelbase, however, the Eclipse drags a bit when pushed hard.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Fuel Consumption

Those who swear by the Eclipses of old remain faithful to the model because of its speedy V6 engine, plush interior styling, and affordable price. Unfortunately, the car’s fuel consumption is only decent at best, as you will see from the ratings below:

New Mitsubishi Eclipse fuel consumption:

  • Mitsubishi Eclipse 2015: n/a
  • Mitsubishi Eclipse 2014: n/a

  • Mitsubishi Eclipse 2008: 23.0 MPG average rating

Mitsubishi Eclipse Features

Mitsubishi Eclipse Convenience and Entertainment Features

During its 20-year long run, the Mitsubishi Eclipse was offered in a number of trim levels with different driving settings and levels of comfort. Its massive size and hefty dimensions made it look more like an American muscle car and not a Japanese sport compact. Highlights of the 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse included a new SE trim, dark argent 18-inch wheels, black exterior door mirrors, and dark lower side "SE" graphics. As for noteworthy creature comforts, these include:

  • Automatic climate control
  • LED instrument panel
  • Steering mounted audio controls
  • Cruise control
  • Leather seats
  • 650-watt 9-speaker audio system

Mitsubishi Eclipse Safety Features

Safety isn’t one of the Eclipse’s strong suit, and is probably one of the reasons that buyers veered away from it as the world moved toward safer cars. Below are some of the Eclipse’s known safety features:

  • Anti-lock brakes
  • Active Stability Control
  • Engine immobilizer
  • Seatbelt pre-tensioners
  • LATCH system
  • Electronic Brakeforce Distribution

Mitsubishi Eclipse Design

Mitsubishi Eclipse Interior

The Mitsubishi Eclipse received its last major facelift for the 2011 model year, refreshing its styling and imbuing it with more power and additional features. Changes to the 2012 model were relatively minor.

As a coupe-type vehicle, the Eclipse is created to be comfortable to its front occupants only—the back seats are simply too small for average-sized adults. The Eclipse’s final year model saw it equipped with the following interior features:

  • Heated leather seats
  • 6-way power driver’s seat
  • One-touch power sunroof
  • Automatic climate control
  • Bluetooth phone system
  • Rockford Fosgate audio system

Mitsubishi Eclipse Exterior

The new exterior was the biggest news for the 2011-2012 Eclipse, as the vehicle received a new grille, front and rear bumpers, and a larger rear spoiler for the top end GT model. The 2011 Eclipse featured a “blackout” roof and a lowered suspension. Changes to the 2012 model Eclipse included brake override logic, an additional exterior color and a clear lip spoiler on the GT trim. As for notable exterior features, here are six:

  • HID projector-type headlamps
  • Parabolic fog lights
  • 2-tone color-keyed bumpers
  • Black-out roof
  • Dual exhaust outlets
  • Power sliding glass sunroof

Mitsubishi Eclipse Color Options

The Mitsubishi Eclipse went through a lot of color sets during its lifespan. Here are some of the model’s most popular hues:

  • Carbon Pearl
  • Kalapana Black
  • North Star White
  • Quick Silver
  • Rave Red
  • Sunset Pearlescent
