Aston Martin Rapide E EV Packs More Than 600 HP
They say they first impression last, which is why Aston Martin wants to make a bold statement when it comes to its first electric vehicle (EV)--the Rapide E.
The Rapide E is the first all-electric production car of Aston Martin and it's developed in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering. The British automaker is limiting the production run of the Rapide E to only 155 units. It will be built at Aston Martin's new facility in Wales, UK, which is also regarded as the brand's center of electrification.
Aston Martin confirmed that its first production EV is equipped with two electric motors as well as an 800 V battery electrical architecture with 65 kWh installed capacity using over 5600 lithium ion 18650 format cylindrical cells. That's a lot of numbers and technical terms but, whatever that means, the important thing to know is that the Rapide E has a power output of 601 hp and 950 Nm of torque--who says EVs are boring and slow?
Speaking of which, the Rapide E is projected to have a top speed of 250 kph and it can go from 0 to 97 kph in about four seconds. Aston Martin added that the Rapide E's electric range target is over 322 km. The Aston Martin Rapide E will enter production starting next year and deliveries are set to begin on the fourth quarter of 2019.
