Despite New Plate Making Plant, LTO Defers Motorcycle Plate Production
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) recently inaugurated its new Plate Making Plant at the LTO Central Office in Quezon City. However, while the facility can produce 22,400 motor vehicle plates per day on a two-shift, eight hour per shift schedule, it will defer the production of motorcycle plates for now.
"With the presence of a Congress-proposed bill for differently-sized motorcycle plates, we have to defer motorcycle plate production. Instead, we will convert the plates allotted for motorcycles to motor vehicle plates," said LTO Assistant Secretary Edgar C. Galvante.
The LTO Chief added though that with the arrival of the automated embossing machine in July, the production of the license plates will be even faster as it can produce 11,200 plates per day on a two-shift schedule.
"In fact, in the near future, vehicle owners may immediately bring home their newly-bought vehicles with plates on, as President Rodrigo Roa Duterte directed. We can do this with the fully-operational Plate Making Plant. But first, we have to address the backlog," the LTO Chief added.
And just in case you want to know, according to the agency, the total backlog of plates for motor vehicles from July 2016 to March 2018 reached 3.8 million while it's 5.2 million for motorcycles.
