DPWH Improves Road to MacArthur Landing Memorial Park
Ease of travel awaits tourists and residents visiting the MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park in the municipality of Palo, Leyte with the upgrading of two access roads by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Based on a report from DPWH Region 8 Director Nerie Bueno, Secretary Mark Villar said that the multi-year road projects of DPWH Leyte First District Engineering Office along Barangays Salvacion and Guindapunan aims to provide improved access going to the memorial park and contribute to the booming tourism in the municipality.
The improvement of the Guindapunan-Baras Road along Barangay Guindapunan involves the installation of drainage and concrete paving of the 1.5-kilometer highway leading to the Government Center of Palo.
In Barangay Salvacion, the widening of the 1.46-kilometer Salvacion-Baras Road is currently on its second of four phases.
The two projects, which started in 2018, is funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA), with a total cost of PHP141 million and PHP122 million, respectively.
"These projects manifest the goal of 'Build, Build, Build' Program not only in improving road networks but also in ensuring that our tourist sites are easy and safe to visit," said Villar.
