Metro Manila Road Crashes Affected 40 Persons Daily in 2018
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) revealed on Saturday, May 18, that 14,553 individuals were involved in road crashes in 2018, amounting to an average of 40 persons daily.
Records from the MMDA’s Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System (MMRAS) showed that 14,341 persons (9,655 drivers, 2,546 passengers and 2,140 pedestrians) were injured last year in road crashes while 212 persons (154 drivers, 36 passengers and 22 pedestrians) lost their lives.
The MMDA revealed the data in time for Road Safety Month, and appealed to the public to practice more responsible road use.
Despite the sizeable number, the number of deaths are lower compared to 2017, where 19,374 were injured and 434 people died, for a total of 19,808 people involved in road accidents.
