It's 'National Check Your Car Day' on Friday, November 17
This coming November 17, Friday, is the 'National Check Your Car Day' and the national government, through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), wants you to have your vehicle checked in observance of the country's Clean Air Month this November to improve air quality nationwide.
Besides the 'National Check Your Car Day' reminder, the DENR will also launch 50 air quality monitoring equipment units from the private sector on November 20, Monday.
These activities are in line with Proclamation 1109 series of 1997's air pollution reduction goal.
Proclamation 1109 declared November as "Clean Air Month Through National Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance Consciousness." The proclamation promotes regular maintenance of vehicles, as the DENR identifies the transport sector as a major source of air pollutants.
"Motorist's neglect of vehicle maintenance remains a major contributor to the rise in vehicle emission," Proclamation 1109 notes. Moreover, the Proclamation also states that "all government vehicles, including vehicles of government owned and controlled corporations and of local government units shall, on this month of November, be subjected to rigorous emission inspection and proper maintenance operation conducted. Henceforth, any government vehicle apprehended for smoke-belching shall be the responsibility and liability of the concerned Department Secretary or head of government-owned or controlled corporation or government agency or local government unit."
The National Check Your Car Day was launched in November 17, 2014, by the DENR and the Coalition of Clean Air Advocates (CCAA).
