Senator Koko Pimentel Questions Certain LTO Practices
Senator Aquilino 'Koko' Pimentel III asked the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to make some improvements with some of its processes in the renewal of driver's licenses.
Specifically, the senator called the agency's attention of its practice of having applicants take two pictures, which he had to undergo when he applied for the renewal of his driver's license at LTO's Marikina branch.
"Dalawang beses ako kinunan ng pictures and digital signatures at different locations," he said. "Hindi ba pwedeng isang picture na lang para sa isang driver's license?"
Pimentel noted that taking pictures twice, which was a requirement implemented by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), is a source of delay in the renewal process.
According to DOTr, the first picture is for the database of Stradcom, LTO's IT service provider, while the second is for Dermalog, LTO's ID license supplier.
Stradcom is in charge of LTO’s online transactions.
"We need to provide our people with fast, efficient and reliable land transportation services and facilities," Pimentel said.
Pimentel also requested DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade to look into the current practice and ensure that they are aligned with the best practices used around the world.
