All Systems Go for Nissan's Formula E Debut
As we already know, Nissan is the first Japanese automaker to join the growing all-electric Formula E racing series. With that in mind, Nissan is all set to for its on-track Formula E debut at the racing series' preseason testing in Valencia, Spain, which will run from October 16 to 19.
The Nissan e.dams team will have three days of testing at Circuit Ricardo Tormo. It will share the track with the other 10 teams competing in the fifth season of Formula E. Nissan said that it will use everything the company has learned in terms of electric power. It is worth noting that Nissan is the company that produces the all-electric Nissan Leaf, which has a record of selling more than 365,000 units.
Nissan also wants to show the performance side of its Intelligent Mobility program. As such, Formula E is an ideal platform for Nissan to showcase its research and development in regards to electric power. The Japanese automaker's Formula E car features a bespoke electric motor, inverter, and gearbox.
"Formula E represents the performance side of Nissan Intelligent Mobility--our vision for changing how cars are powered, driven and integrated into society," said Nissan's global head of brand and marketing Roel de Vries.
Nissan has also partnered with Royal Dutch Shell for the pretesting stage of Formula E's fifth season. Royal Dutch Shell says the partnership will help the company in terms of coming up and testing new products that can improve the driving experience for electric vehicle drivers.
The Nissan e.dams team's driver lineup consists of 2015-16 Formula E champion Sebastien Buemi and Alex Albon. The fifth season of the Formula E racing series begins December 15, 2018.
