Tokyo 2017: Mazda Previews Next-Gen Mazda 3, Mazda 6

Mazda has revealed what two of its next-generation models might look like via two concept cars at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. The Mazda Kai Concept is a compact hatchback, and at first glance, you know it will be the basis of the next-generation Mazda 3. According to the carmaker, the Kai Concept's design is "a more mature expression" of its 'Kodo' design language and that it "embodies the technology, engineering and design concepts that will define the next generation of Mazda cars." The Mazda Kai Concept is equipped with Mazda's next-generation Skyactiv-X compression-ignition gasoline engine and utilizes the brand's Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture. While the overall executive is impressive  though, we can't imagine that humongous C-pillar making it into the final production model.   Like the Kai Concept, the Mazda Vision Coupe supposedly represents the brand's design vision for its next-generation models but has a Japanese aesthetic to it to give it a "more elegant and premium styling." The Mazda Vision Couple is not a true coupe though as discreetly hidden in its swooping roof line and lengthy body panel are two rear doors. And while it's easy to say that the Mazda Vision Coupe could be the inspiration for the next-generation Mazda 6, its long wheelbase and sleek design may hint at a more premium model.
