New and Used Mazda MPV for Sale Philippines

Mazda MPV for sale | Mazda MPV price | Red Mazda MPV

The Mazda MPV was a compact minivan that ran for two generations and lasted from 1989 to 2006. The Mazda MPV was the Japanese car maker’s entry into the burgeoning minivan segment during that time, and as one of the smallest minivans on the market, the Mazda MPV distinguished itself from the competition by being one of the rare models to feature roll-down windows in its sliding doors.

The MPV was a modest seller for Mazda, but by the turn of the century, the vehicle was being overtaken by its competitors in every aspect, which affected its sales numbers even more. Pretty soon, the MPV was lagging way behind the likes of the Honda Odyssey and other more sizeable, tech-heavy minivans. Waning sales made 2006 the last year for the Mazda MPV, but its minivan legacy lives on in the Mazda 5, which is the former’s direct replacement introduced the year after the MPV’s demise. Mazda MPV Review in the Philippines

Mazda MPV Specs and Performance

The first generation Mazda MPV, which ran from 1989 through 1998, featured two engines: a 2.6-liter four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter V6. The earliest releases from this generation were equipped with either a four-speed transmission or five-speed manual. The latter option was eventually discontinued in 1991 because of poor sales performance.

Mazda skipped producing the MPV in 1999 before releasing its second generation in 2000. While the first-gen was a rear-wheel-drive, the second-gen’s power was transferred to the front wheel, and conveniently came with dual sliding doors. Initially, the second-gen MPV was launched with a 2.5-liter V6 170 hp performer, before being replaced in 2002 with a more powerful 200-hp 3.0-liter V6.

Though the Mazda MPV Philippines is compact by normal minivan standards, this doesn’t really hamper the vehicle’s performance. On the contrary, handling is one of the MPV’s biggest strengths, navigating curves like an agile sedan. Likewise, steering response is topnotch, ride comfort is exceptionally good, and engine noise is modest.

Mazda MPV Fuel Consumption

The big engine and stellar performance does have a trade-off, and the penalty falls in the MPV’s  fuel consumption, as the vehicle averages a mere 16 miles to the gallon. Although the rate did improve as the years wore on for the MPV, early models were quite the guzzler, so if given a choice, you’ll be better served by buying a later-year Mazda MPV:

Second hand Mazda MPV fuel consumption:

  • Mazda MPV 2006: 20.2 MPG average rating
  • Mazda MPV 2005: 20.1 MPG average rating
  • Mazda MPV 2004: 24.3 MPG average rating
  • Mazda MPV 2003: 18.5 MPG average rating

Mazda MPV Features

Mazda MPV Convenience and Entertainment Features

On the road, the MPV’s suspension does a good job of absorbing bumps, and even with the light rear, remains steady when driven over rough roads. Mazda has smartly equipped the MPV with four-wheel disc brakes and anti-lock braking system, which enhances both the vehicle’s maneuverability and comfort. Key convenience and entertainment features for the vehicle are:

  • Tilt steering wheel
  • Steering wheel mounted audio controls
  • AM/FM/Cassette/CD player
  • Power moonroof
  • Front and rear air conditioning
  • Speed control

Mazda MPV Safety Features

As it was with fuel consumption, safety was quite the issue for the MPV’s early versions. Integral features such as side curtain airbags and traction control were non-existent. This lack of safety features was gradually addressed with each year of release, and near the end of its lifespan, reviewers and car owners alike were quite impressed with the safety of this Mazda car.

  • Dual front and side impact air bags
  • Anti-lock Braking System
  • Traction Control
  • Occupant sensing airbag
  • Panic alarm
  • Immobilizer
