The Nissan Exalta (sometimes referred to as the Nissan Sentra Exalta) was manufactured by Nissan Motors from 2000 to 2004. It was the sole competitor of the Toyota Corolla Altis in the Philippines, though Nissan dropped the Exalta badge in 2004 because of its unsuccessful sales. They called the later models the all-new Sentra instead.

Nissan Exalta Review in the Philippines

Nissan Exalta Specs and Performance

The Nissan Exalta technically had two generations. Introduced in 2000 and sold until 2001, the first generation Exalta had four variants, namely Nissan Exalta STA, Nissan Exalta SLA, Nissan Exalta EX Saloon, and Nissan Exalta FE. The second generation, on the other hand, came in 2001 and lasted through 2004. The generation was based on the Bluebird Sylphy, rather than the Nissan Sentra the previous generation was based on.  It had five variants, which were the Nissan Exalta GS Grandeur, Nissan Exalta GS Superio, Nissan Exalta LS, Nissan Exalta DS, and Nissan Exalta GX.

The first generation Nissan Exalta STA and Nissan Exalta SLA were both equipped with the GA16DE 1.6 DOHC 16V I4 engine which produced a maximum power of 110 hp at 6,000 rpm            and a maximum torque of 140 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The Nissan Exalta EX Saloon, on the other hand, had a GA14DE 1.4 DOHC 16V I4 engine that delivered 87 hp at 6,000 rpm and 116 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The Nissan Exalta FE had a GA13DS 1.3 DOHC 16V I4 engine with a maximum power of 79 hp at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 104 Nm at 3,600 rpm. All were powered by a front wheel drive.

Both STA and SLA had the same front McPherson strut suspension and rear multi link suspension. However, that’s where their similarities end. Where the Nissan Exalta STA had a 4-speed automatic transmission, the Nissan Exalta SLA had both 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmissions. Their brakes also differ. Where the STA had a front vented disc brake and a rear disc brake, the SLA had a front vented disc brake and a rear drum brake. On the other hand, both the EX Saloon and FE had the same case. Both had the same front McPherson strut and rear multi link suspensions and front vented disc and rear drum brakes but had different transmissions. The EX Saloon had 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmissions, while the FE had only a 5-speed manual transmission.

For the second generation Exalta, the GS Grandeur, GS Superio, and LS were equipped with the same QG16DE 1.6 DOHC 16V I4 engine that gave 118 hp at 6,000 rpm and 165 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The DS variant, on the other hand, had a QG15DE 1.5 DOHC 16V I4 engine with 103 hp at 6,000 rpm and 135 Nm at 4,400 rpm. The GX variant had a QG13DE 1.3 DOHC 16V I4 engine with a maximum power of 94 hp at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 123 Nm at 4,400 rpm. All variants were powered by a front wheel drive. For the transmissions, the GS Grandeur and Superio both had a 4-speed automatic transmission while the LS had a 5-speed manual transmission. The DS and GX, on the other hand, both had 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmissions.

For the suspensions, the GS Grandeur, GS Superio, and LS had a front McPherson strut suspension and rear multi link beam with stabilizer bar. The DS and GX also had a front McPherson strut suspension, but with a rear multi link beam. The brakes were the same with the GS Grandeur, GS Superio, LS, too. They had front vented disc and rear disc brakes. The DS and GX variants also had front vented disc brakes, but with rear drum brakes.
