Opel Astra for sale Philippines | Opel Astra price Philippines | Red Opel Astra

There’s more enjoyment to be had with the Opel Astra than some other cars in its segment. For one, the vehicle manages to be an engaging drive, with a refined ride courtesy of a well-balanced steering wheel and quick-to-respond handling—all this without sacrificing on-road comfort. The Lotus Engineering influence is quite obvious, as the vehicle handles rough roads well, even when fully laden. Safety features also rank among the Astra’s main selling points. The Opel Astra G is a small family car designed and manufactured by German car manufacturer Opel since 1991. The vehicle went under a different nameplate in some of the markets it was released in, and was known as the Vauxhall Astra in the U.K., the Buck Excelle XT in China, and the Holden Astra in Australia and New Zealand. The vehicle was also available in various configurations including the Opel Astra hatchback, Opel Astra sedan, Opel Astra wagon, and Opel Astra Cabrio.

The Astra G’s predecessor, the Astra F, was quite a disappointment, with many reviewers pointing out its mediocre engineering, soggy suspension and dated design as the main reasons for its failure. By partnering with Lotus for the Astra G, Opel was able to tweak the chassis, suspension and design that eventually transformed the vehicle into more of a driver’s car. The result was a vehicle with sharper styling, better handling and safety features that ranked among the best in its class at the time. The Astra G is the name Opel assigned to the vehicle model’s second generation, which lasted from 1998 to 2004. This is the only generation that enjoyed widespread distribution in the Philippines—GM Automobiles Philippines bought the Opel marque in 1997 and subsequently brought the Astra G to the country in 2000. Unfortunately, the vehicle didn’t perform well in the market, and coupled with the decision to expand the Chevrolet brand, GM Philippines decided to scrap the Opel Astra Philippines—along with the Opel marque—in 2005. Therefore, if you’re in the market for a 2016 Opel Astra, you won’t be able to get your hands on one anymore.

However, the Astra persists in other markets, and though you cannot purchase an Opel Astra in the Philippines, you can still order one from local vehicle importers. Another option is to buy a 2nd hand Opel Astra in the used cars for sale market in the Philippines. Some of the Astra’s more formidable opponents in its segment include Volkswagen’s Golf, Mazda 323 and Ford Focus.

Opel Astra Review in the Philippines

The second generation Astra boasted a whopping eight engine choices, including a V8 engine utilized in the ‘Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Series’ version of the vehicle. However, only a lone engine type—an Ecotec 1.6-liter engine—made it to the Philippine vehicle market. This particular Opel Astra engine gives off 110 hp and 150 Nm of max output and torque, respectively. The Opel Astra suspension system comes by way of a front MacPherson strut and a rear rigid axle twist beam.
