Ferrari to Debut Hybrid Supercar this Month
Ferrari revealed a lot of information during its first quarter financial call, including the confirmation that it will debut a hybrid supercar before this month ends.
"The second model will be presented at the end of this month, with the world premiere held here in Maranello. As we have stated previously, it will be a top-of-the-line hybrid with supercar performance and a true beauty," Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri said.
As Camilleri mentioned, this is Ferrari's second hybrid offering. Back in 2016, the Prancing Horse launched the LaFerrari pictured here. It has a 6.3-liter V12 supplemented by an electric motor that added 161 hp and 134 Nm for a total of 950 hp and 969 Nm. However, production of the LaFerrari was limited to just 499 units.
Reports from those in-the-know claim that the car comes with a twin-turbo V6, and will generate an output of 723 hp and 1,085 Nm. A V8 hybrid powertrain is expected to follow soon after, these sources said
Ferrari has neither confirmed nor denied these pieces of information circulating about, so the exact layout or function of the new system remains up in the air.
Nevertheless, Camilleri admitted that the upcoming hybrid supercar will be placed "above the 812 Superfast," adding that "it's not a 488 replacement per se."
With the 812 Superfast's 6.5-liter V12 rated at 789 hp and 719 Nm, Ferrari's new hybrid sure has its work cut out.
Keep your eyes open until the end of May for the unveiling of Ferrari's electrified offering.
