Denza D9

Upon entering the Denza D9, you are greeted by a modern, sophisticated-looking cabin equipped with advanced technology and premium creature comforts. It is equipped with a 128-coloured ambient lighting system and a 1.1 m² panoramic canopy with electric sunshades.

When it comes to comfort and practicality, the D9 provides ample room for seven occupants and a generous luggage space with the rear seats folded. Its premium Nappa leather seats offer a plush yet supportive feel, ensuring a comfortable experience even during extended journeys. Massage functions are available for both the first and second rows, with the latter offering an even more indulgent experience through its zero-gravity seats with built-in multifunctional touchpads on their armrests.

Further enhancing passenger convenience and practicality are three 50W wireless charging pads (front: 1, middle row: 2), a refrigerator, an activated-carbon air filtration system, a PM2.5 green cleaning system, as well as a total of six USB ports, among other amenities. 

Meanwhile, the driver is treated to a high-tech cockpit comprising of a 12-inch heads-up display, a 10.25-inch full-LCD 3D instrument panel, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with multiple controls, and a modern-looking gear lever positioned on its aircraft-like center console. For entertainment and information accessibility, this luxury MPV features a 15.6-inch ultra-HD center console screen that offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, an OTA remote upgrade, and a 4G network connection. This center console screen is paired with a 14-speaker Dynaudio sound system. 

However, the majority of the car’s interior controls are accessed via the center console screen, which might be an issue for other drivers and passengers accustomed to physical buttons and knobs. On the bright side, its interface is smooth and responsive.

The Denza D9’s modern exterior design strikes a balance between confidence and elegance. Up front, it features the brand’s ‘Motion’ design language, highlighted by its luxurious chrome grille with a distinctive pattern. Its bold-looking fascia is flanked by angular LED headlights with sleek, flowing LED daytime running lights (DRLs). Additionally, an insulated glass is integrated into its front windshield to minimize heat transmission and improve sound insulation.

From the side, this luxury MPV exudes a smart, hypermodern aura, thanks to its middle-row electric-sliding doors and electric-folding side mirrors. The D9 is fitted with some chrome accents and multi-spoked 18-inch alloy wheels, adding a more elegant touch to its overall silhouette on the road.

Moreover, its elegant, hypermodern character carries over to the rear, highlighted by its LED ‘Star Feather’ tail light design. A chrome ‘D-E-N-Z-A’ lettering is also positioned on its electric tailgate, proudly emphasizing its identity to those around it. 

In terms of dimensions, the Denza D9 measures 5,250 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,920 mm in height. This luxury plug-in hybrid MPV also has a wheelbase of 3,110 mm. 

In terms of suspension, the Denza D9 is equipped with MacPherson Struts at the front and a Multi-Link at the rear, both of which are supported by the brand’s DiSus-C intelligent damping system. Thanks to this advanced suspension setup, you’ll be able to pass through bumpy, uneven roads comfortably and confidently. This luxury MPV remains stable and impressively refined, even at higher speeds. While it may not be the most confident through sharp twists and turns, it still handles quite well for its size both in the city and out on the open road.

Powering the D9 is Denza’s plug-in hybrid technology that pairs a 1.5L turbocharged engine, producing 96 kW (129 hp) of maximum power and 220 Nm of maximum torque, with two AC permanent magnet synchronous motors. Its front motor generates 170 kW and 340 Nm, while the rear motor produces 45 kW and 110 Nm. Feeding its electric motors is a 40-kWh BYD Blade battery that offers a pure electric range of 180 kilometers (NEDC).

That said, its entire plug-in hybrid powertrain delivers 299 kW (401 hp) of combined power, 681 Nm of combined torque, and a 980-km comprehensive driving range. This luxury MPV runs on an electric hybrid drive system and utilizes an all-wheel drivetrain.

The D9 strikes a fine balance between effortless performance and easy drivability on the highway. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain’s strong torque delivery allows it to easily perform quick expressway overtakes and confidently power through steep inclines. The driver also has the flexibility to adjust how it behaves on the road, courtesy of its four drive modes: Standard, Economy, Sport, and Snow. Overall, its great electric and combined ranges make it a practical city commuter and a capable long-distance cruiser.

In terms of safety, the D9 features Denza’s DiPilot technology, which includes blind spot detection, traffic sign recognition, forward and rear collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert and brake, emergency lane keeping assist, and intelligent cruise control.

Additionally, this luxury MPV comes with front and rear ventilated disc brakes, supported by hydraulic brake boost, a hydraulic brake assist, an electronic traction control system, an electronic brake pre-charging system, a vehicle dynamic control system, electronic brakeforce distribution, and a coordinated regenerative braking system, among others.

In my opinion, the Denza D9 is a near-perfect contender in the country’s luxury MPV segment. It is future-ready, luxurious both inside and out, and immensely versatile on the road, delivering an impressive mix of comfort, modern functionality, safety, and exciting performance wherever it goes.
