JAC JS4

Inside, the JAC JS4 features a premium-looking cabin that offers plenty of room for five passengers. Both its first and second rows have generous amounts of headroom and legroom. And, on top of this, you get a nice 520-L minimum trunk capacity for your baggage and groceries. 

Upfront, drivers get an instrument screen with a dimmer switch, a multifunctional leather steering wheel, and a premium-looking gear lever, which is also wrapped in leather. This crossover’s leather and fabric seats are plush and provide decent ergonomics for everyone on board even on long-distance trips.

For entertainment and information accessibility, it comes with a 10.25-inch floating central infotainment touchscreen, which has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an MP5 player, Bluetooth, and AM/FM radio. Its infotainment is connected to a 6-speaker sound system. You have a panel on the lower end of the dashboard, which houses the touch controls for the car’s interior features. And for more convenience and functionality, you also get front and rear USB ports, a front 12V power outlet, and a wireless mobile charger.

The JAC JS4 measures 4,410 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,660 mm in height. This crossover has a 2,620-mm wheelbase and a 150-mm minimum ground clearance. It runs on a dynamic-looking set of 17-inch wheels.

From the outside, the JAC JS4 features a smart, hypermodern look, which the brand calls as a “Geometric Exterior Design.” It has an assertive flare courtesy of its sharp-looking daytime running light bar along with a rectangular pair of halogen headlamps underneath. 

This crossover features a two-toned side profile that looks elegant and sporty at the same time, accentuated by blacked-out trims and body-coloured finishes. Its silhouette is defined by a combination of sharp character lines and well-proportioned curves. This crossover comes with LED welcome lamps with a JAC projection, which add a premium touch to its overall appearance.

At night, trailing behind this vehicle is certainly enjoyable thanks to its futuristic-looking rear light bar with T-shaped edges. It also comes with fog lamps for more visibility and illumination on the road. For additional storage, it has a roof rack on top. 

In terms of suspension, the JAC JS4 utilizes a combination of a MacPherson independent-type at the front and a Torsion Beam semi-independent type at the rear. This suspension setup allows this crossover to absorb bumps and road imperfections quite well. It is very maneuverable even through tight traffic and narrow streets. 

One of this car’s downsides, however, is its lack of steering feel. Its steering lacks a bit of response when you are driving at high speeds, which could lead to a bouncy or floaty feeling when hitting sharp turns or passing through larger bumps and potholes. But, to be fair, this crossover is designed to be driven sensibly inside the city.

The JAC JS4 is powered by the brand’s 1.5T GDI engine that has a maximum power output of 147 hp and a maximum torque of 210 Nm. This crossover’s motor is mated to a continuously variable transmission system. 

On paper, its performance outputs might not look exciting, but this crossover is actually surprisingly swift and smooth on the highway. Its CVT is fairly responsive, allowing you to perform at your best. In the city, this crossover delivers impressive fuel efficiency even when you are driving in mixed conditions. And, on top of this, it has a good NVH suppression system inside the cabin.

In terms of safety, the JAC JS4 comes with multiple airbags, four rear parking sensors, an engine immobilizer, an overspeed alarm, and cruise control among others. Its braking setup is equipped with an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability program, hydraulic brake assist, hill-start assist control, and a brake override system. It comes with front ventilated disc brakes and rear disc brakes. 

The JAC JS4 offers a sweet spot for budget-oriented consumers who are looking for a vehicle that is maneuverable and driver-friendly and, at the same time, very practical and feature-packed. In my opinion, giving this car ADAS would increase its competitive advantage within its segment.
