JMC JMEV EV3

The bright and lively personality of the JMC JMEV EV3 carries over to its cabin layout. It features a very youthful interior with an impressive mix of soft-touch materials and hard plastics for its price point. The front row is a nice place to be in, while the second row has enough space for the average Filipino passenger. However, taller and larger passengers might not enjoy the second row’s low headroom and limited legroom. But, on the plus side, its seats are comfortable and supportive. 

Upfront, you get a 10.1-inch floating touchscreen display, which serves as both the car’s infotainment system and the driver’s instrument cluster. There are also no physical buttons or knobs on its dashboard. That said, other drivers might find this setup a bit overwhelming or an inconvenience. Its infotainment is equipped with a CarbitLink interface, Bluetooth connectivity with hands-free audio and call controls, and USB, and is linked to a 2-speaker sound system.

For added practicality and convenience, this EV comes with three cup holders at the front, two cup holders at the rear, a keyless entry system, front and rear power windows, two USB Type-A charging ports, and a 12V power socket. 

The JMC JMEV EV3 features a more mature look than its smaller cousin, the EV2. It still has that cute, lively appearance paired with some elegant design cues. Upfront, it sports a decorative front panel with a diamond-like pattern. For an entry-level EV, it has an ethereal flare courtesy of its projector type LED headlamps with inverted L-shaped LED DRLs. Underneath, a black bumper adds a hint of sportiness to its facade. 

It has a sleek two-toned side profile, accentuated by black window trims and pillars as well as classy-looking 15-inch aluminum alloy wheels. This EV hatch comes with LED side turn lamps. Furthermore, it flaunts a sporty-looking back end illuminated by LED taillamps, which resemble that of other European cars of today. It also gets fog lamps and a high-mount brake lamp for more visibility. And, to complete the look, it features a sporty two-toned rear bumper.

In terms of dimensions, the JMC JMEV EV3 measures 3,720 mm in length, 1,640 mm in width, and 1,535 mm in height. This EV has a 2,390-mm wheelbase and a 120-mm ground clearance.

The JMC JMEV EV3 utilizes a MacPherson independent suspension at the front and a Torsion Beam at the rear. Its suspension setup is on the stiffer side of things. However, it’s not too stiff to the point that it already disrupts your comfort level while driving. It handles turns or corners quite well and is very maneuverable even through tight traffic and narrow streets.

The JMC JMEV EV3 runs on a single permanent magnet synchronous motor that generates a maximum power output of 68 PS and a maximum torque of 125 Nm. Its motor is powered by a 31.2 kWh Ternary Lithium battery pack with a Smart Global Temperature Control, which delivers a CLTC driving range of up to 330 km. Its battery has a DC fast charging time of 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes. This hatchback utilizes a front-wheel drivetrain and is equipped with three drivemodes: Eco, Normal, and Sport.

On paper, its performance outputs might not look exciting, but this EV is actually very peppy. It can deliver a nice pull both in the city and on the highway. Though, it is still better to think twice before overtaking slower vehicles on the expressway. The EV3 is also capable of taking on shorter-distance out-of-town trips in a single charge. And, on top of this, it offers a pretty quiet cruising experience courtesy of its good sound insulation system. 

The JMC JMEV EV3 is equipped with two driving assistance systems, namely, a 360-degree panoramic view camera with dynamic guidelines and a transparent chassis view, as well as rear parking sensors. It also comes with a driver airbag, multiple seatbelts, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a vehicle immobilizer with an anti-theft system. 

In terms of braking, this EV comes with front ventilated discs and rear solid discs. Its braking setup is supported by an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, traction control system, hill start assist, and a hydraulic brake assist. 

In my opinion, the JMC JMEV EV3 is a game changer in the local EV scene. It doesn’t look nor feel like its price point on the road. For its size, it is very feature-packed, city-friendly, and a respectable highway cruiser.
