MINI Clubman

While there is a sense of distinctiveness in the exterior of the Mini Clubman, the interior layout has been shared with the hatchback versions of the Mini. The layout of the Mini Clubman has a neo-retro vibe with several round-themed elements, with the cabin having an air of vibrance and elegance to it.

Mini is offering the Clubman with several upholstery options, such as Firework Cloth in Carbon Black, Double Stripe Cloth in Carbon Black, Leatherette in Carbon Black, Cross Punch Leather in Carbon Black, Dinamica/Cloth in Carbon Black, Dinamica/Leather in Carbon Black, Mini Yours Lounge Leather in Carbon Black, Chester Leather in Satellite Grey, Chester Leather in Indigo Blue and Chester Leather in Malt Blue. The dashboard and inner door panels also get decorative trims, the options of which are Hazy Grey, Piano Black, Mini Yours Piano Black, Untold Illuminated, Mini Yours Fibre Alloy Illuminated and Mini Yours Frozen Blue Illuminated. 

The exclusivity of the cabin of the Mini Clubman is evident with the round-themed multi-functional steering wheel, TFT instrument console and centrally-stacked circular 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Mini is offering features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a front centre armrest with storage, heated seats, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, ambient lighting and driver seat height adjustment. The Sport and John Cooper Works trims get additional standard features like auto-folding rearview mirrors with logo projection, panoramic sunroof and a more premium Harman Kardon audio system. The John Cooper Works variant gets extra features like a heated front windscreen, head-up display and wireless charger. All of these features are also available for the Classic and Exclusive variants for added charges.

The Mini Clubman is a larger version of the 5-Door Mini with a longer wheelbase and enhanced width, and that is evident in its sheer size and road presence. With larger dimensions, the Mini Clubman has a stronger road presence, while the tweaks in styling on the outside give it its own identity. That being said, the design language of the Mini Clubman, especially at the rear with split doors, might not be to everyone’s taste.

Like the other offerings from Mini, the Clubman also has a funky appearance with rounded and slanted headlamps, which have LED projectors along with circular daytime running LEDs. The massive grille sitting between the headlamps has a split look with rounded edges, with different trim levels having different finishes for the surrounds and inserts. Mini offers the options of black and white stripes for the bonnet, along with Silver stripes for Exclusive trim. The front bumper also has rounded fog lamps and bold-looking air inlets in the inner lower edges of the front grille. 

From the side, the Mini Clubman looks longer thanks to the stretched wheelbase and comes with a wraparound design for the chrome finish which flows all around the window waistline of the car. Along with blacked pillars, the Mini Clubman comes with door-mounted rearview mirrors, which can be customized in one of the many colour options on offer. The Clubman also comes with wheel arch and side moulding, while being offered with multiple 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheel options. 

The rear profile is where the real identity of the Mini Clubman lies, with this station wagon having split rear doors which open sideways. With blacked-out door handles on the inner edges and wide LED tail lamps with distinctive Union Jack LED inserts, the rear profile of the Mini Clubman is something which makes it look very different. The sportiest-looking variant of the lot, the Mini John Cooper Works Clubman has additional red highlights for the roof, rearview mirrors, brake callipers and door panel graphics.

The longer wheelbase and wider track width of the Mini Clubman not only liberate more space in the cabin but also give it an additional sense of composure on both straight stretches and corners. The Clubman has retained the fun-to-drive character of the Mini hatchback, and so it has inherited the stiff ride quality of the latter. The three drive modes on offer – Green, Mid and Sport – are also shared with the hatchback versions.

There are three engine options in the Mini Clubman lineup, with one each for all three variants. The Mini Cooper Clubman has a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine under its hood, which claims 136 PS of power and 220 Nm of torque. The Mini Cooper S Clubman has a bigger and more powerful 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which churns out 178 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque.

The full-blown Mini John Cooper Works Clubman has the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine in a different state of tune, which produces 306 PS of power and 480 Nm of torque. All the variants have a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard, with the option of an 8-speed automatic transmission available for the John Cooper Works variant. 

The standard safety features on offer in all the variants of the Mini Clubman are six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, dynamic stability control, front and rear parking sensors and cornering brake control. For an additional amount, one can opt for the extra safety features available from Mini, such as a rear camera, head-up display and ADAS features. 

The Mini Clubman inherits all the coolness and sportiness which one associates with the Mini hatchbacks, while also offering better practicality with added cabin space and boot space, along with more exclusivity with its split doors for the boot compartment access.
