Suzuki Swift Review
Suzuki Swift Overview
The Suzuki Swift, over the past few years, has emerged out as the most successful global model from Suzuki, and in the Philippines too, the compact hatchback has managed to rake in impressive numbers for Suzuki. The Suzuki Swift is available in a single GL variant, which is offered in two transmission options and six paint schemes – Star Silver, Pure White, Speedy Blue, Mineral Grey, Super Black, and Ablaze Red.
Suzuki Swift Interior
The interior cabin layout of the Suzuki Swift has been completely transformed, and now matches the overall sporty personality of the car very much, with the all-black finish for the cabin with silver inserts going with the theme pretty well.
At the driver’s seat, the flat bottom multi-functional steering wheel along with pod-like instrument console with a red-backlit theme and LCD MID in between infuses the sporty theme for the driver’s cockpit.
The centre console of the dashboard is slightly tilted towards the driver, with round AC vents above, a large 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the middle and rotary style round dials for the automatic climate control at the bottom. There is a fine layer of silver finish running through the width of the dashboard, with trapezoidal AC vents on the corners.
With decent equipment on board, the Suzuki Swift offers a passenger space for five people which though feels limited due to limited headroom and shoulder room.
Suzuki Swift Exterior
Currently in its third generation, the Suzuki Swift has gone under a beautiful evolution, and while it more or less retains its original silhouette, the design feels refreshing and sporty.
At the front, the Suzuki Swift welcomes one with its wide front grille which has tapered upper edges and a string of horizontal blackened slats, giving it a sporty appeal. The sweptback headlamps are larger in size than before. The extended U-shaped black garnish in the front bumper houses fog lamps and daytime running LED strips in its extreme corners.
The side profile of the Suzuki Swift too has been designed nicely with smooth contours flowing from the bonnet to the driver’s door and another one rising from the rear door. The two-door look courtesy the hidden door handle in the rear door recess adds to the sportiness of the Swift.
At the rear, the Suzuki Swift feels familiar with a clean boot lid design, sweptback tail lamps, and a higher loading lip with the big rear bumper, all of which have been mildly tweaked to appear new and fresh looking. However, the car feels grown in size here, which makes the Swift look newer in personal.
Suzuki Swift Ride & Handling
The Suzuki Swift gets Macpherson struts with coil springs at the front and torsion beam with coil springs at the rear, which here are slightly stiffer in order to impart the precise driving appeal the Swift has always been known for. The steering feedback, however, is lighter than before, which lacks the precision of the erstwhile model, but feels better in an urban setup.
Suzuki Swift Engine & Fuel Consumption
Powering the Suzuki Swift is an in-house developed 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which has been retained from the previous generation model. In its current iteration too, the engine produces a maximum power output of 83 PS and a peak torque output of 113 Nm. The engine is being offered with the choices of both 5-speed manual and CVT gearboxes.
Suzuki Swift Braking & Safety
The Suzuki Swift is armed with a decent safety amenities list, which includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, and ISOFIX mounts for child seats. The absence of reverse parking sensors and camera is quite surprising, considering the global models do get them.
Suzuki Swift Verdict
The Suzuki Swift has evolved beautifully into a good and sporty looking model, despite retaining the original silhouette, which impresses both the traditional Swift fanboys and the new gene buyers. The interior cabin feels better put together than before with modern layout and better quality levels, and the petrol engine feels as peppy as ever before, thus making it a great option for driving enthusiasts.
