Harley-Davidson Breakout 117

The Harley-Davidson Breakout 117 exudes a very commanding presence on the road courtesy of its striking classic chopper design, which has some premium-looking modern elements. With an abundance of chrome finishes all around, it looks brash yet sophisticated at the same time. It comes with chrome mirrors, turn signals, side covers, fender supports, muffler shields, and “Heavy Breather” intake. Its head lamp comes with a high beam function for top-notch illumination especially at night. 

This performance custom cruiser now comes with a reshaped saddle that provides better comfort for both the rider and pillion and effectively accommodates its bulky 5-gallon fuel tank. Its low seat height ensures that the average Filipino rider (under 6ft) can plant their feet confidently at stops, improving low-speed control when passing through bumper-to-bumper traffic in the city. However, when it comes to longer trips, its saddle is not the most comfortable nor pleasant out there.

Additionally, riders are given a 2.14-inch LCD instrument display, which displays the speedometer, odometer, tachometer indication, gear, fuel level, trip, range, and a clock. Meanwhile, at the back, its brash personality is emphasized by a very functional 2-into-2 exhaust setup. 

The Harley-Davidson Breakout 117 measures 2,370 mm in length, 665 mm in seat height, and 1,695 mm in wheelbase. It has a 115 mm ground clearance and runs on a rugged-looking pair of gloss black 26-spoke cast aluminum wheels (21-inch at the front and 18-inch at the rear).

In terms of suspension, the Harley-Davidson Breakout 117 utilizes a dual-bending valve 49 mm telescopic with aluminum fork triple clamps at the front, while a hidden, 43 mm-stroked, free-piston, coil-over monoshock at the rear. This suspension setup allows this cruiser to deliver exceptional stability and comfort on the highway for both the rider and pillion. It can also absorb light to moderate bumps on urban roads pretty effectively. 

However, one of its suspension setup’s main flaws is its inability to conceal its heavy and bulky frame. You’ll definitely feel its weight when maneuvering through traffic and narrow streets, as well as hitting turns or corners at high speeds. But, overall, this bike can still offer a pretty comfortable ride in the city and on shorter out-of-town trips.

The Harley-Davidson Breakout 117 is powered by a 1,923 cc Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine that produces a maximum power output of 102 hp and a maximum torque of 167 Nm. It runs on a 6-speed manual transmission gearbox.

On the highway, this performance custom cruiser can run rapidly, overtaking slower vehicles with ease and precision. Its fuel economy is pretty decent, making it a feasible daily ride in the city (if budget is not an issue for you). And, with all that torque, it can also handle steep roads out of town. This big bike performs exceptionally well on straight lines and free-flowing highways.

In terms of safety, the Harley-Davidson Breakout 117 is equipped with an anti-lock braking system, as well as lights or indicators for low oil pressure, engine diagnostics, security, low battery voltage, and low fuel. Its braking setup consists of front and rear split 7-spoke floating rotors finished in black with a 4-piston fixed caliper at the front and a 2-piston floating caliper at the rear.

Admittedly, the Harley-Davidson Breakout 117 is very niche-heavy. Hence, it won’t be a compelling option for every consumer. But, for discerning buyers who are looking for a classic chopper-styled cruiser that can deliver a very satisfying and thrilling riding experience on the highway, the Breakout 117 is well worth consideration.
