Suzuki Raider R150 Fi Review
Suzuki Raider R150 Fi Overview
The flagship offering from Suzuki in the under-bone bike category, the Raider R150 FI has gained a good reputation for itself for bringing technological betterments in the commuter segment. Launched for the first time in 2004, the Suzuki Raider R150 has gained a lot of changes in all these years and now is available in two different versions – FI and Carburettor. The FI version to be discussed here is being offered in the five different colour options – Black, Red, Matte Red, Blue, and Matte Blue.
Suzuki Raider R150 Fi Design
The Suzuki Raider R150 FI is one of the sleekest looking cub-class bikes of current times, however, the design looks a bit oddball in actual profile and looks too small for a 150cc two-wheeler. It might not appeal to those people who expect a 150cc bike to be a bit beefed up.
Nevertheless, the Suzuki Raider R150 FI tries to look sporty, at least from the front, with the bike getting a modern front face comprising of a full LED lighting assembly. This headlamp is shaped like in the form of Y and is encased in a sharp-looking bikini fairing. The upper corners of this front headlamp do come incorporated with turn signals.
The sharpness and sleekness of the Suzuki Raider R150 FI have been tried to be retained in the side profile of the bike. The body panels starting from the edge of the headlamp flows all the way to the bottom where the engine has been positioned, and blends in well with the side body panels below the seat as well.
The whole side body panels do form a Y-theme design which does look good and comes with bold decals that do try hard to make it look sporty. The engine comes with a cowl ahead of it, which integrates itself with the body panels above it. The multi-spoke alloy wheels, as well as engine and exhaust, are finished in an all-black theme.
There are trapezoidal matte black finished side cowls on the sides, which make way for the rear side body panels which flow upwards towards the tail. The stepped single seat along with single piece pillion grab rail look too functional, yet are very purposeful. The sharply raised tail section ends up in a triangular tail lamp at the back, the assembly of which also integrates clear lens turn indicators like that on the front.
The rider’s cockpit view of the Suzuki Raider R150 FI looks cool with the clip-on handlebars along with a fully digital rectangular instrument console. The meter console shows readouts for speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, gear indicator, odometer, trip meters, and clock. The build quality of the Raider R150 FI feels unquestionable and everything on it feels built to last long.
Suzuki Raider R150 Fi Ride & Handling
Sitting on an under-bone frame, the Suzuki Raider R150 FI has simple mechanical components in the form of hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and mono-shock with rectangular swing-arm at the back. With a weight of just 109 kgs and a powerful engine for its backing, the good power to weight ratio along with its lean profile makes the Raider R150 FI a good handler.
Suzuki Raider R150 Fi Engine & Fuel Consumption
Under the frame of the Suzuki Raider R150 FI, at the bottom, is placed a four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, 147.3cc engine, which is the most powerful motor for an under-bone bike Suzuki has ever made. The engine, which is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox, pumps out a maximum power output of 18.5 PS and a peak torque output of 13.8 Nm.
Suzuki Raider R150 Fi Braking & Safety
The Suzuki Raider R150 FI is armed with a setup of a petal disc brake at both front and rear. Apart from that, a lockable under-seat small storage space, as well as a one action key shutter mechanism, are the only safety features available on the bike.
Suzuki Raider R150 Fi Verdict
Suzuki has made some honest attempts to make the Raider R150 FI as modern and feature-rich as possible, which to some extent does make it look contemporary, however, the offbeat design might not suit everyone’s preference. However, when it comes to features, engine performance and handling, the Raider R150 FI impresses a lot and ranks among the best of under-bone bikes available in the market right now.
