Aston Martin Debuts the Vanquish Zagato Volante Speedster and Shooting Brake

It’s been a busy year for Aston Martin. After forging new partnerships with Mercedes and AMG, the luxury British sports car brand also launched its Production line-up into the future with some nifty new technologies and innovations. Now, Aston Martin ups the style factor for its Vanquish Zagato line by adding two more models to its family: The Vanquish Zagato Speedster and Shooting Brake.

The first of the family, the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Coupe, was released last year, followed closely by its convertible sibling, the Vanquish Zagato Volante. The Speedster and Shooting Brake models join the Vanquish Zagato family this 2017.

The Vanquish Zagato line is built for rarity, as the entire line will see a maximum of 325 cars built. The Speedster will be the rarest of them all, as Aston Martin only created 28 of these. Production is split between the rest of the Vanquishes, with  99 units reserved for each model.

All four cars are based on the underpinnings of the Vanquish S, which means each vehicle comes with naturally aspirated V12 engine and a smooth shifting Touchtronic III transmission. Coupled with adaptive damping, each vehicle delivers 592 hp (600 PS) worth of pure on-road goodness.

Production has commenced for all four models has begun and deliveries will be completed through 2018. All of the 28 Speedsters have been sold, according to sources.

Vanquish Zagato Speedster

The Speedster represents an extreme for the Vanquish Zagato family, as it comes with a no-holds-barred roofless design, with 'speed humps’ that shape the streamlined cowls right behind the driver and passenger headrests. These humps are meant to evoke the Zagato’s trademark double-bubble roof.

As with other Zagato models, the Speedster has carbon fiber body panels, ‘Blade’ tail lights similar to that of the Aston Martin Vulcan, and repeated 3D Zagato ‘Z’ motifs in the front grille and rear vent meshes.

Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake

Like the Speedster, the Shooting Brake is also a two-seater. All the technical aspects are the same (V12 engine, Techtronic trans, carbon fiber body panels, etc.), but this one comes with a roof. It also gets a large powered luggage compartment, as well as a custom luggage set that matches the interior.

Words from Aston Martin and Zagato

“Many of our customers want different things,” Marek Reichman, Aston Martin Chief Creative Officer. “Some prefer the purity of coupe, but others love the idea of something more extreme, like the Speedster. And yes, some of them have ordered one example of each.”

“Think back to the DB7 Zagato and DB AR1, or the V8 Zagato Coupe and Volante,” he adds. “We’ve simply taken things a few steps further.”

Andrea Zagato, CEO of independent coachbuilding company Zagato, has this to say about the enduring creative partnership: “My family name is associated with all kinds of wonderful designs, but for many enthusiasts and collectors around the world those that combine the Z of Zagato with the wings of Aston Martin are the most special.”
