Ferrari F154CB is International Engine of the Year for Second Straight Year
The Ferrari F154CB V8 powerplant for the Ferrari 488 models has been named as the International Engine of the Year for the second straight year, making it the fifth engine to win back-to-back nods since the competition began in 1999. The four other mills that won the International Engine of the Year award more than once are: the BMW M V10 in 2005 and 2006; the BMW 3.0-liter twin-turbo in 2007 and 2008; the Volkswagen TwinCharger in 2009 and 2010; and the Ford 1.0-liter EcoBoost which received the accolade for three straight years from 2012 to 2014.
As if the back-to-back honor wasn't impressive enough for the 3.9-liter Ferrari V8 engine, it has now won a total of seven awards, including back-to-back category wins for the Performance Engine and New Engine titles as well.
Used in the Ferrari 488 GTB and Ferrari 488 Spider models, the all-aluminum F154CB incorporates a twin-scroll turbocharger and is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to produce 661 hp and 760 Nm of torque with a throttle response time of only 0.8 seconds at 2,000 rpm in third gear.
"It's fitting that probably the best turbocharged engine ever developed has secured back-to-back outright International Engine of the Year Award titles," said International Engine of the Year Awards co-chairman Dean Slavnich. "This blend of heart-thumping performance on both road and track, with a glorious V8 Maranello rumble and an ultra-sophisticated design that's loaded with advanced technologies, makes the Ferrari V8 unbeatable for another year."
