Honda, GS Yuasa to partner for battery development

Honda announced that it has reached an agreement with GS Yuasa, a Japanese battery company, to develop a high-capacity, high-output lithium-ion battery.

“Honda is striving to realize carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities Honda is involved in by 2050. Honda and GS Yuasa have already been working together on lithium-ion batteries for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and this new collaboration will further accelerate Honda’s electrification strategies toward the achievement of our carbon neutrality goal,” said Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Director, President, and Representative Executive Officer Toshihiro Mibe.

Honda and GS Yuasa will not only develop lithium-ion batteries but also work on battery production methods that will be highly competitive in the global market. Further, the two firms aim to establish a supply chain for key raw materials and a highly-efficient battery production system.

President and Representative Director Osamu Murao.

A joint venture company is expected to be established by the end of 2023.
