Honda PH to stop production of 150cc scooters?

Honda Philippines Inc., (HPI) might no longer offer 150 cubic capacity (cc) scooters.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Will HPI discontinue its 150cc scooters?

Per HPI Motorcycle Planning Department Manager Leo Cachero, the company’s model lineup is now focused in the 160cc category rather than the 150cc versions.
  • What are HPI’s 160cc scooters?

Currently, HPI’s 160cc scooters are the Honda ADV 160, PCX 160, Airblade 160, and Click 160.
  • Those following the brand would notice that some of its popular nameplates are getting a small bump in terms of engine displacement, making them wonder if HPI would phase out its 150cc versions.

We asked the company’s leadership such a pressing query.

“We will still continue the 125cc. But for the 150cc, right now as you can see, our model lineup for the higher displacement is already all in the 160cc. So, we will still continue to develop more exciting motorcycles that will suit (the needs of the riders) here in the Philippines,” HPI Motorcycle Planning Department Manager Leo Cachero told Carmudi Philippines.

“Please expect (that) in the coming years, we will introduce new developments,” Cachero added, pertaining to the technical aspects of HPI’s upcoming motorbikes.

HPI launched the ADV160 last week. The arrival of the slightly beefed-up adventure motorbike not only bolsters the company’s small displacement lineup but also supports the idea that the local arm of Honda’s motorcycle division is indeed focusing on scooters equipped with 160cc engines.

And, with Cachero’s answer, we’re getting a strong feeling that 150cc motorcycles might no longer be part of the HPI roster soon.

Aside from the recently-launched Honda ADV160, the company’s 160cc lineup consists of PCX160Airblade160, and Click160.
