HS students create cardboard replica of Honda C100 Super Cub

How do you create a Honda C100 Super Cub replica out of cardboard? Just ask the team of six third-year students in the Art Department of Ehime Prefectural Yawatahama Technical High School in Hachimanhama City in Shikoku, Japan. They'll probably provide you with an extremely detailed answer that's as "painstaking" as their work of art.

According to Honda's Japanese website, the cardboard motor scooter was created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Super Cub. It's an extremely cool-looking piece, with such intricate details that it took us a second to realize they're made from cardboard.

As you can see, the students paid extreme attention to details, leaving no part out of the equation. If you look closely at the picture above, you can even see the Honda logo embossed on the bike's hinged seat. What's interesting about it is that it can be pivoted forward, and even shows the correct size and shape of the scooter's removable fuel tank cap.

When asked about the process it took to build the Honda scooter, the students said that they sourced out all the board from waste paper and recycling products from a nearby shopping district and the school's waste paper storage area.

They started making the tire first because they don't burn without a "vehicle shape." And since they have spokes around them, the students used corrugated cardboard reinforced by woodworking bond to increase its strength after drying. They repeated the process around five times more until each tire was strong enough to support the total weight of the scooter.

The final result of all that meticulous, hard work is a masterpiece in and of itself. Hopefully, these students will continue doing this with other vehicles--and  perhaps even create a replica of our traditional  jeepney made from cardboard.

It might take take an entire school year to make, but that's truly a sight worth seeing.
