Rusi Chariots procured for MMDA-DPWH flood management project's initial phase

A fleet of Rusi Chariots were procured as part of the Metro Manila Flood Management Project (MMFMP) Phase 1 under the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Based on Rusi’s website, the aforementioned three-wheeled model is powered by a 175 cubic capacity (cc) engine matched to a five-speed gearbox with reverse.

A total of 75 units of the Rusi Chariot are being turned over to the leaders of barangays around Tondo and Paco in the City of Manila — along with other waste collection equipment.

MMDA General Manager Undersecretary Procopio Lipana said that the provision shall support the barangay programs and activities that prevent solid wastes from reaching the pumping stations and “encourage the community to actively participate in all solid waste management activities.” 

In a statement, the MMDA said that the initiative was under the aforementioned project under the financial support of the World Bank Group-International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
