We just might see these Peugeot models here this year

After Astara formally took over the distributorship of Peugeot Philippines  (and launched the new 5008), the local arm’s new managing director Raoul Picello immediately revealed the plan of bringing in four models to the country.

The aforementioned goal was echoed during the recent launch of the facelifted 3008, but he and Peugeot Brand Head Maricar Parco kept their lips sealed on the possible nameplates that could be offered locally.

Now that the French Lion’s Philippine distributor already introduced the new  5008 and the 3008, what are the two possible models that Peugeot Philippines might launch soon? Here is what we have in mind.

On top of the list is the new Peugeot 2008. The crossover was launched in neighboring country Malaysia last month.

The model is available and produced in the aforementioned country, which is where the two recently revealed models are also being sourced and manufactured.

The Peugeot 2008 is powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged Puretech engine that can dish out 130hp and 230Nm of torque. In Malaysia, the Peugeot 2008 is being sold for RM100,670 (around P1.2 million).

Next in line could be the Peugeot 508.

The model was once made available in the country when the French automaker’s distributorship was still under Eurobrands Distributor, Inc. under the leadership of Palawan Govenor Jose Alvarez. The Peugeot 508 is presented in sedan and wagon body types.

The Middle East-spec Peugeot 508 is fitted with a 1.6-liter turbo gasoline power mill that helps the vehicle reach a top speed of 248kph and is compliant with Euro 6 emission standards.

Lastly, another possible Peugeot vehicle in the country is the Peugeot 208.

Another model that was sold in the country by the previous management, the hot hatch would sit well in today's setting given the skyrocketing fuel prices and the current traffic situation.

In the Middle East, the Peugeot 208 is equipped with a 1.2-liter engine paired to a EAT6 six-speed automatic conversion gearbox.
