The digital event of Peugeot Philippines was not limited to the announcement of being under a new leadership, it also paved the way to the launching of the updated version of the 5008 sport utility vehicle (SUV).
According to the French automaker’s local arm, the aforementioned model is part of the initial four new vehicles that the company — now under Astara — is planning to offer to the country.
During the virtual press conference, Peugeot Philippines Branch Head Maricar Parco said that the seven-seater SUV is assembled at the Stellantis manufacturing plant in Gurun, Malaysia — the same facility that made the outgoing iteration of the 5008 namplate.
“All vehicles built in this plant undergo specific endurance and quality testing to deliver best-in-class performance to meet the needs of customers in South East Asia. Together with other Peugeot models, the new 5008 SUV successfully endured a combined 300,000 kilometers of testing in the diverse local climate and environmental landscape,” the local arm said in a statement.
The new Peugeot 5008 SUV is powered by the latest generation 1.6-liter Twin Scroll Turbo High Pressure (THP) engine that can provide as much as 165hp and 240Nm. Paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, the new Peugeot 5008 is set to deliver quality performance and fuel efficiency.
Also, the new Peugeot 5008 sports a frameless radiator grille, full LED headlights with "illuminated fangs” daytime running lights design. The rear lamps have a 3D-claw design covered with a transparent smoke lens and scrolling indicators. This vehicle sits on 18-inch alloy wheels.
The newly-introduced Peugeot 5008 features a multitude of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) - including active blind spot detection, lane keeping assistance, and driver attention alert.
Available in Emerald Crystal, Nera Black, Pearl White and Amazonite Grey, the new Peugeot 5008 is priced at P2.26 million and can now be purchased at all Peugeot Philippines showrooms nationwide.
