Aion V Overview
GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Group Corporation) Motor Philippines strengthened its presence in the country’s EV scene earlier this year with the launch of its sub-brand, Aion. Among its newest all-electric models is the Aion V, an all-electric 5-seater compact crossover that boasts class-leading spaciousness and comfort. Equipped with the brand’s ADIGO Intelligent Driving System, this EV offers a safe, reliable, and practical cruising experience for you and your family. It is available in two variants - its lower trim, Elite, which is priced at ₱1.498 million, and its higher trim, Premium, which is priced at ₱1.698 million.

Aion V Interior
Inside, the Aion V’s cabin layout features a minimalistic theme that looks and feels premium for its price point. The driver and all his or her passengers can enjoy the car’s ADIGO Intelligent Cockpit System that offers a 14.6-inch central infotainment control screen that has a four-zone voice control, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, and in-car WiFi. Its infotainment system is linked to a 9-speaker plus 5.1 surround sound system for high-quality bass and acoustics. Exclusive to the driver is an 8.88-inch full LCD instrument cluster and a leatherette-trimmed steering wheel. One downside of this vehicle, however, is the lack of physical control buttons on its dashboard, which may cause an inconvenience for older-gen drivers and passengers.
The cabin of the Aion V boasts class-leading spaciousness. Fitting five inside this car is not a struggle. Its luxurious leather seats also provide supportive cushioning and just a plush seating experience overall. For a premium-level of convenience, its higher trim also comes with a refrigerator inside. You also get multiple cubbies and ports inside this electric crossover.

Aion V Exterior
From the outside, the Aion V has the usual futuristic look that you would expect from new-generation EVs. At the front, it also sports a smooth front fascia and a pair of LED headlights with an automatic on and off feature like most modern-day EVs. But, what gives this car a distinctive appearance on the road is its pair of “Cyber T-Rex Claw” LED DRLs. It has a unique flare that is most noticeable at night. On the sides, it has electronic and automatically-foldable mirrors and hidden door handles, both of which give it a nice premium touch. If you happen to follow this vehicle, you will notice that it also has T-Rex Claw LED DRLs at the rear along with fog lights and a high-mounted brake light.
Aside from these, younger gen drivers and passengers will definitely enjoy its panoramic skylight with an electric sunshade for a more aesthetic vibe. The Aion V runs on a set of 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels. This electric crossover is 4,605 mm in length, 1,854 mm in width, and 1,686 mm in height. It has a 2,775 mm wheelbase and a ground clearance of 171 mm.

Aion V Ride & Handling
In terms of suspension combination, the Aion V utilizes a McPherson Strut Independent Suspension at the front and a Torsion Beam Non-Independent Suspension at the rear. Its suspension system allows this vehicle to run smoothly and have decent absorption of road bumps. For more adaptability, it is also equipped with three driving modes: Comfort, Sport, and Power Saver. However, body rolls are noticeable inside the vehicle when driving at high speeds due to its lack of firmness. But, overall, it delivers a smooth and stable cruising experience for everyone on board.
-
Aion V Engine & Fuel Consumption
Both variants are powered by a combination of a front-wheel drive electric motor and a magazine battery. However, the motor has different tuning for each variant and the battery also has different metrics. The lower trim, Elite, has a motor that produces a maximum power output of 135 kW, while the Premium’s can produce 165 kW. Both motors produce a maximum torque of 240 Nm.
In terms of battery, the Elite’s battery has a capacity of 64.5 kWh and has an NEDC driving range of 504 kms. On the other hand, the Premium’s battery has a capacity of 75.26 kWh and an NEDC driving range of 603 kms. However, only Premium’s battery has a fast 400V + 3C charging time of 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
This electric crossover, regardless of the variant, has a surprisingly great power delivery. It runs smoothly both on city roads and highways. Thanks to its electric powertrain, it can also be a practical and reliable daily vehicle in the city. And, on top of that, it has an impressive NVH suppression system for its price point.
-
Aion V Braking & Safety
One of the strengths of the Aion V is its equipment of the brand’s ADIGO Intelligent Driving System, a long list of ADAS. This list includes a high-precision millimeter-wave radar, a smart camera, a 360-degree parking camera, full-speed adaptive cruise control, integrated cruise assistance, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane departure assist, and an emergency lane keeping assist among others. It also comes with standard safety and security features.
In terms of braking, it utilizes ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear. Its braking setup is protected by an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control, traction control system, hill start assist control, and a regenerative braking control system.
-
Aion V Verdict
For a price point that is cheaper than a BYD Atto 3 or a Geely EX5, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Aion V gains more attention from local consumers a few months from now. It is very well-packed for its accessible starting price, making it one of the most practical crossovers in the market today.
