Chery Tiggo Cross

The Chery Tiggo Cross’ cabin doesn’t look nor feel entry-level with all of its premium soft-touch panels. Its cabin features an elegant, minimalist design through a combination of black finishes and silver accents. Upon entering, the driver is greeted by a high-tech cockpit, which consists of a 10.25-inch TFT display, a multicontrol steering wheel wrapped in leather, and a modern-looking gear lever. 

For entertainment and information accessibility, this SUV comes with a dual 10.25-inch floating touchscreen display that offers wired Apple CarPlay (wireless for HEV variant), wireless Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity. For more convenience, this car is also equipped with USB charging ports and a wireless charger (exclusive to the HEV variant). 

In terms of practicality, its cabin has more than enough room to effectively accommodate four passengers. However, inserting a third individual in the second row might be a bit of a struggle due to its limited rear legroom. But, on the plus side, its front bucket seats and rear seats offer great cushioning and ergonomics for everyone on board. You also get a decent trunk space at the back. 

The HEV variant features 6-way power adjustable seats with lumbar support for a more premium feel, whereas the base CVT gets the manual counterparts. In addition, the HEV variant also comes with a sunroof, allowing passengers to achieve an ‘IG-worthy’ lighting.

The Chery Tiggo Cross model line features an exterior design that strikes balance between sportiness and elegance. Upfront, both variants flaunt a diamond accent front grille, which emphasize their new-gen Chery identity. This SUV sports an assertive-looking pair of LED headlights with vertical LED DRLs.   

Moreover, it has a sporty two-toned side profile, accentuated by blacked-out window trims, wheel arches, and side garnishes. The HEV variant flaunts an elegant-looking set of 17-inch two-tone alloy metal wheels, while the base CVT gets the single-toned version. At night, its back end looks very unique courtesy of its through-type LED taillights that display a tiger stripe pattern. And, for more storage, this SUV also comes with ornamental roof rails.

The Chery Tiggo Cross model line measures 4,320 mm in length, 1,831 mm in width, and 1,652 mm in height. This subcompact SUV comes with a 2,610-mm wheelbase and a 190-mm ground clearance.

The Chery Tiggo Cross model line utilizes a suspension combination of a MacPherson independent-type at the front, while a Torsion Beam at the rear. For an SUV, the Tiggo Cross is quite maneuverable in the city like a typical crossover. It offers a good turning radius and a light steering. Additionally, it also offers decent absorption of light to moderately-sized bumps and other road imperfections. It might not have the plushiest ride within its segment, but it can still deliver a pleasant and comfortable experience for everyone on board.

The Chery Tiggo Cross comes in two powertrain options. First, the HEV variant is powered by Chery’s Super Hybrid technology that combines an in-line 4, DOHC, Atkinson Cycle engine with a single permanent magnet synchronous motor. This hybrid powertrain produces a maximum power output of 204 PS and a maximum torque of 310 Nm. This variant runs on a dedicated hybrid transmission system.

On the other hand, the base variant is powered by a 1.5L 4-cylinder, DOHC gasoline engine that delivers 114 PS and 141 Nm of torque. This variant runs on a 9-speed continuously variable transmission system. 

Both variants utilize a front-wheel drivetrain. The HEV variant is also equipped with two drive modes: Eco and Sport. The HEV variant is surprisingly peppy off the line. Its DHT is smooth and responsive, enhancing the driver’s overall experience. Meanwhile, the base variant still has enough power and torque to run at high speeds on the highway. However, its CVT is a bit laggy, especially when you are going up the rev range. 

On the plus side, the CVT variant offers a decent fuel economy for its segment. But, if you are going for more power and efficiency, the higher trim’s hybrid powertrain certainly has the upper hand. 

In terms of safety, both variants of the Chery Tiggo Cross are equipped with six SRS airbags, three rear parking sensors, a reverse camera with dynamic guidelines (540-degree panoramic view camera for the HEV variant), vehicle anti-theft with immobilizer, ISOFIX, tire pressure monitoring system, and cruise control. The HEV variant also comes with a total of 14 advanced driver assistance systems.  

This SUV comes with front ventilated disc brakes and rear solid disc brakes. Its braking setup is also supported by an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, traction control system, electronic stability program, hill descent control, and a brake assist.

The Chery Tiggo Cross is one of the most feature-packed entry-level subcompact crossover SUVs in the local market. It delivers a high value for money, which can certainly appeal to many budget-oriented consumers and young professionals in the market to buy their very first car.
