Mazda’s entry into the midsize sedan segment is the Mazda 6. Mazda gave the executive sedan a minor facelift this year to make its fluid design even more attractive. It now comes with the option of two inline 4-cylinder engines including a diesel. These include a 2.2L turbo diesel with an output of 187 hp and 450 Nm of torque and another 2.5L turbocharged petrol making 227 hp and 420 Nm of torque. Both come coupled to a SKYACTIV-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission. There is only one trim available for both. This is a very well equipped and luxurious trim with Napa leather upholstery, 19” wheels, adaptive LED headlights, 8” touchscreen infotainment with 11 speaker Bose sound system, 7” driver’s display, electronic sunroof, and a 360-degree view camera. Standard safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist. Prices start from Php 2.25 million, putting it in competition against the top of the line Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry.

This midsize sedan is pegged as an executive sedan that still embodies the KODO Soul of Motion design language by its Japanese automaker. Mazda 6 as formally introduced on April 5, 2013, and was only available as a sedan being the 2.5-liter Skyactiv-Gasoline as the only engine option. While in 2019, the new turbocharged 2.5-liter gasoline engine was added to the stable to replace the former with the same presented displacement.

Mazda 6 Sedan Exterior

The sedan trims’ exteriors mainly feature a mesh design front grille accompanied by adaptive LED headlights (ALH) with auto on or off and auto-leveling. It also has an LED daytime running light (DRL), rain-sensing wipers, and an electric glass sunroof. This car is also equipped with body-color, power-adjustable, and power-fold side mirrors.
It is available in five exterior colors which are Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Machine Grey, Jet Black, Sonic Silver, and Snowflake White Pearl Mica. As for the interior, you have four colors and make set-up you can choose from, these are Black Cloth, Pure White Leather, Walnut Brown Nappa Leather, and Pure White Nappa Leather (depending on the variant that you will choose).

This car features an electric power-assisted power steering wheel with audio, Bluetooth, and cruise control switch. When it comes to handling, Mazda 6 is the sedan that has the athletic reflexes that are designed to impress car lovers. It is considered as the most nimble car in its segment; thanks to its balanced chassis that helps in giving the car more precise handling. It employs MacPherson strut for the front suspension and Multi-link for the rear. The lowest-priced trim which is the wagon has the 2,488cc SKYACTIV-G 2.5 In-line, 4-Cylinder DOHC, 16-Valves engine that can fire up to 190 Ps at 6,000 rpm and 252 Nm torque at 4,000 rpm. It shifts gears through a SKYACTIV-DRIVE 6-speed automatic transmission with G-vectoring plus.
Meanwhile, the sedan with the same displacement but turbocharged employs a SKYACTIV-G 2.5 Turbo Gasoline In-line, 4-Cylinder DOHC, 16-Valves. It can fire up to 231 PS at 5,000 rpm and 420 Nm torque at 2,000 rpm with the same transmission set-up with the wagon. The diesel engine is equipped with 2,191cc SKYACTIV-D 2.2 Turbo Diesel In-line, 4-Cylinder DOHC, 16-Valves that can put out 190 PS at 4,500 rpm and 450 Nm torque at 2,000 rpm. It has the same transmission with the other two trims but has no sports driving selection mode.
Mazda 6 Sedan Braking & Safety
As for the braking, Mazda 6 is equipped with Ventilated Discs in the front and Solid Discs in the rear. It also has an electric parking brake with an auto brake hold and has the standard Anti-Lock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution.
Among its safety features are six airbags, Dynamic Stability Control, Passenger Seatbelt Warning Lamp, Smart Keyless Entry System, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, 360° Rear View Camera, Child Lock Protection, and ISOFIX.
Some other special safety features include i-STOP Idling Stop System, i-ELOOP Regenerative Braking System, Blindspot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, and Cylinder Deactivation.
