RAM 1500

While the exterior design of the RAM 1500 might not look as modern and up-to-date as one can expect, this impression is bound to change when one steps into its cabin. The impeccable fit and finish levels are the first thing which one will have a note of, and the all-black cabin with decent use of brushed aluminum and faux wood further makes the interior look rich and premium.

The three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel as the very wide and comprehensive instrument console with colored MID screen and a host of rounded analog gauges make the driver’s cockpit look very inviting. The same can be said about the protruding out center console, which has silver finished side panels and a large touchscreen infotainment system and controls for audio and automatic climate control placed in between them. 

There are innumerable storage spaces and cup holders in the cabin, including the dual gloveboxes on the passenger side of the dashboard, which makes the already spacious-for-five cabin even more practical. 

From the size of it, the RAM 1500 seems to be designed with an intention to make every other movable vehicle on the road look smaller than it. This large truck with huge dimensions and big block styling has an intimidating road presence. However, the overall design seems to look as if it belongs to a couple of generations old, thus giving it an impression of a dated looking big truck.

The front look of the RAM 1500 appears very bulky, with oodles of chrome around the trapezoidal front grille, which has rounded edges and a big plus layout in the middle of it, as well as the front bumper, which is completely finished in chrome. The trapezoidal-shaped headlamps, placed just adjacent to the side edges of the front grille are large in size as well, and pack in projector bulbs as well as daytime running LEDs. The large front bumper has been equipped with rather small looking fog lamps on its corners.

The almost vertically laid front grille, horizontal looking bonnet line, rounded wheel arches, and angular pillars further make the RAM 1500 look bulky and old school when viewed from the sides as well. Ample amount of chrome is used here in the side profile as well, for the door handles, outside rearview mirrors, and even the large alloy wheels, thus making the RAM 1500 look very bling-bling. At the back, as expected, the RAM 1500 has a very plain layout for the deck lid, with the outer corners of it fitted with vertical tail lamps.

The front and rear heavy-duty shock absorbers fitted with stabilizers try to keep the RAM 1500 on track while driving on long stretches at speeds as well as off-road terrains. However, the humongous proportions and blocky styling do filter in body roll a bit. The 20-inch wheels of the RAM 1500 are fitted with all-season tires, giving the truck great flexibility in all kinds of terrains and seasons.

Powering the mammoth RAM 1500 is an equally big and powerful sounding 5.7-litre naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine under its massive hood. With a maximum power output of 395 PS and a peak torque output of 542 Nm, the RAM 1500 comes across as one of the most powerful lifestyle pickup-up trucks on sale right now. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

While the RAM 1500 might have an old-school appearance, the truck comes with a few modern safety features which include the front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, trailer sway damping, ready alert braking, hill start assist and reverse parking sensors with camera.

The RAM 1500 might impress on the first go with its gigantic stance on the outside and premium and plush interior cabin, with the great performance from the gigantic engine under its hood, although it’s quite thirsty from the perspective of fuel efficiency.
