New and Used Jaguar X-Type for Sale Philippines
In 2001, Jaguar launched a car that was meant to be the British car brand’s answer to the BMW 3 Series. Dubbed the X-Type, the car was the result of a partnership between Jaguar and Ford, with the goal of expanding the former’s reach and production numbers to that of its German rivals. Sadly, things didn’t turn out as planned.
Put simply, Jaguar took a lot of ill-fated decisions with the X-Type. To start with, the vehicle shared many of its components with the average Ford Mondeo, which made it difficult for the car to compete with its rivals in terms of features and driving dynamics. Even Julian Thomson, Jaguar’s Advanced Design Director, called the X-Type a huge mistake. "It didn't look mature or powerful or anything. It was just a car," he said.
Nevertheless, after all is said and done, it can’t be denied that the X-Type is a decent vehicle. In addition to having enough comfortable space for four full-sized adults, it boasted a handsome ride, large boot, and a fuel efficient engine. Even if the car has been widely viewed as a bane for the Jaguar brand, it’s a far better car than what its reputation would suggest.

Jaguar X-Type Review in the Philippines
Jaguar X-Type Specs and Performance
For the last year, only one engine option was offered for the Jaguar X-Type, which is a 3.0-liter V6 that produces 227 hp and 279 Nm of torque. This lone Jaguar X-Type engine is paired with an automatic transmission, and an all-wheel drive is standard. Street manners are satisfactory, albeit less powerful than many of its competitors. Most of the unfair comparisons levelled at the X-Type is that it performed more like a Ford and less like a Jaguar, but if one can get over the fact, perhaps one may start to see the X-Type for what it is, which is a reliable and more than adequate car.
Jaguar X-Type Fuel Consumption
Although there’s nothing special about the Jaguar X-Type fuel economy, nothing bad can be said about it as well. Below is a list of some popular Jaguar X-Type years and their relative fuel consumption rates:
Second hand Jaguar X-Type fuel consumption:
- Jaguar X-Type 2009: 9.8 l/100km average rating
- Jaguar X-Type 2008: 9.8 l/100km average rating
- Jaguar X-Type 2007: 9.8 l/100km average rating
- Jaguar X-Type 2006: 9.8 l/100km average rating
Jaguar X-Type Features
Jaguar X-Type Convenience and Entertainment Features
The Jaguar cabin evokes images of classic Jaguar vehicles, though it’s apparent that what you’re getting is a watered down version. The plastic dashboard is not particularly ergonomic, but it’s a Jaguar nonetheless. As for the vehicle’s creature comforts, here’s a short sampling of what to expect:
- Remote keyless entry
- Power tilt/slide glass moonroof
- Message center and trip computer
- Fully carpeted luggage area
- 320-watt AM/FM CD player
- Automatic climate control w/ pollen filter
Jaguar X-Type Safety Features
The NHTSA gave the Jaguar X-Type sedan and wagon a four-star rating for side-impact crashworthiness. In comparison, the IIHS only gave it a mere ‘Marginal’ grade for side impact. Not all is bad news though, as the car did earn top scores for safety from frontal crashes. Below are some of the high end safety features of the vehicle.
- 3-pt. safety belt on all seating positions
- 4-way adjustable front seat head restraints
- Driver seat position-sensing system
- Side-impact curtain airbags
- Inertia switch
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Jaguar X-Type Interior
As a budget luxury car, the Jaguar X-Type could comfortably seat up to four passengers, but five was pushing it. The car’s lowered roofline also makes for a cramped headroom. That said, the Jaguar X-Type wagon was the taller car of the two, so if you’re looking for more headroom, then the wagon is the way to go.
- 10-way power adjustable front seats
- Front center console with cup holders and storage
- Fold-down rear arm rest with two cup holders
- Leather seating surfaces
- Lockable glove box
- Sunvisors with illuminated vanity mirrors
Jaguar X-Type Exterior
Though not necessarily gushing with praise, the Jaguar X-Type’s traditional exterior shape earned plenty of good reviews. The latter models in particular, has smooth, modern lines that channel Jaguars of the past. The design is also quite deceptive, making the Jaguar X-Type car look longer, lower, and bigger than it actually is. The car’s higher tail will be familiar to Jaguar lovers.
- 16-inch alloy wheels
- Pillar-type rear combination lamps
- Classy side garnish
- HID headlamps
- Chrome grille
- Fog lamps
Jaguar X-Type Color Options
The Jaguar brand is known for its high level of customization, and though the X-Type is one of their least flexible cars in terms of features, it’s good to know that color options is one area that the British carmaker didn’t scrimp on. Eleven colors make up the Jaguar X-type color palette, six of which are listed below:
- Ebony
- Porcelain
- White Onyx
- Chilli Red Metallic
- Emerald Fire Metallic
- Shadow Gray Metallic
