Its first to second generation models, which spanned from 1978-2001, were available in the Philippines, and was known as Nissan Vanette Grand Coach. It remained similar to its predecessors, except for a few minor tweaks on the exterior, such as a new wheel design and upgraded seat and dashboard materials.  Unlike other Asian countries, there was no diesel variant that was offered in the Philippines. Many car experts believe that this unintentional error on Nissan's part consequently lessened Vanette's popularity in the market.

During its time, the Nissan Vanette was also rivalled by Toyota LiteAce and Daihatsu’s Hijet.

It has a 92hp capacity that can churn out 158Nm @ 3,200rpm of torque, and its 5-speed manual transmission with a mid-engine / rear wheel drive makes shifting gears faster.
