Nissan NV 350 Urvan Overview

To cash in the potential in the large people mover segment, which was single-handedly ruled by the mighty Toyota Hiace in all these years, Nissan came up with the NV 350 Urvan in 2015. Essentially the sixth-generation Nissan Caravan sold overseas, the Nissan NV 350 Urvan is sold both in cargo as well as passenger carrier versions, with the latter being available in both basic and premium avatars.

Nissan NV 350 Urvan History

Nissan launched its immensely successful sixth-generation Caravan as the all-new Nissan Urvan in the Philippines car market in 2015. This large van was introduced in the Philippines as a direct import from Japan, a route which it continues to follow to date.

At the time of its launch, the Nissan NV 350 Urvan was introduced in five different variants – 3-seater Cargo, 18-seater VX, 15-seater Shuttle, 12-seater Escapade, and 10-seater Super Elite – all of which catered to a different set of buyers, ranging from basic cargo-moving fleet owners to top-of-the-line premium ferrying vehicle.

In 2018, Nissan Philippines gave a minor update to the NV 350 Urvan, which saw mild changes to exterior and interior, as well as renamed variant lineup.

Nissan NV 350 Urvan Highlight

Currently, the Nissan NV 350 Urvan is being offered in five different variants to choose from. The range starts with a 3-seater Cargo, which is purely meant for carrying goods, with the small drivers’ cabin having a seating capacity of three people. The range then adds on the 15-seater Standard and 18-seater Standard variants, which as the name suggests, differs on the basis of the seating capacity.

Above these two Standard variants are positioned the Premium variants – Premium MT and Premium AT. Differentiated on the basis of transmission options, the Premium variants are not only much more feature-rich than the Standard variants but are also significantly bigger in terms of dimensions.

All these variants of the Nissan NV 350 Urvan are powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which has its performance numbers rated at 129 PS of maximum power and 356 Nm of peak torque output. Except for the top-spec Premium AT, which is bestowed with a 5-speed automatic gearbox, the rest of the lineup gets a 5-speed manual gearbox as a standard transmission option.

The Premium AT variant of the Nissan NV 350 Urvan is the most feature-rich model of the entire lineup. Features like a 2-DIN audio system, power windows, and individual AC vents for all passengers. However, considering the competition, the Nissan NV 350 Urvan could have had more contemporary features on board.

Nissan NV 350 Urvan Safety

The very basic list of safety features made available for the Nissan NV 350 Urvan includes just dual front airbags, ABS with EBD seat belt pre-tensioners with force limiters.

Nissan NV 350 Urvan Fuel Consumption

The Nissan NV 350 Urvan has a claimed fuel efficiency of 13.9 kmpl, which is quite decent given how large and torquey its 2.5-litre diesel engine is.

Nissan NV 350 Urvan Pros and Cons

Nissan NV 350 Urvan Pros

  • Spacious and comfortable cabin – Whether it’s the 15-seater version or the 18-seater one, the Nissan NV 350 Urvan offers uncompromised levels of seating comfort and space. Even the base Cargo version offers tons of space to accommodate goods.
  • Torquey diesel engine – The 2.5-litre diesel engine of the Nissan NV 350 Urvan might not be too modern in terms of technologies, but it surely manages to impress with the sheer amount of usable torque on offer.
  • Comfortable ride quality – The overall suspension setup of Nissan NV 350 Urvan is tuned on a softer side, which comes in handy in imparting a plush ride quality for longer distances.

Nissan NV 350 Urvan Cons

  • Too basic in and out – Even in the top-spec Premium variant, the Nissan NV 350 Urvan is one seriously underequipped vehicle in terms of features and misses out on a number of modern equipment.
  • Slightly dated visual appeal – The Nissan NV 350 Urvan is on sale for quite some time now, and in all these years, it has received an almost negligible visual update which makes it look quite dated now.
