BYD Tang DM-i to bolster company’s portfolio soon

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines appears to be ready to launch a new hybrid vehicle soon, effectively bolstering its portfolio of new-energy vehicles. 

On Facebook, the local wing of the Chinese car company posted a picture of the electrified sport utility vehicle (SUV), captioned “Are you ready for the biggest and boldest Super DM-i SUV?”

The photo reveals the fascia of the nameplate hidden in some shadow. 

Further, BYD Cars commented a link on the post, which invites customers to sign up for “launch updates” and “exclusive test drive invites” for the Tang DM-i. 

Homologation paperwork

The BYD Tang DM-i’s arrival is supported by homologation documents from the Land Transportation Office (LTO). 

Per the agency, the hybrid SUV will be equipped with a four-pot, 1.5-liter engine that generates a maximum power output of 268 horsepower and a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour.

It appears to have an estimated range of up to 110 kilometers, thanks to its lithium-ion phosphate battery. 

Moreover, it has a plug-in hybrid system that has a charging time of three hours using an AC charging system and 22 minutes using a DC charging system.

Additionally, the BYD Tang DM-i will have a set of 20-inch wheels shod with 255/50-series tires all around. It has seating for seven, driver included.  

Per BYD Cars Philippines, its soon-to-arrive hybrid SUV offers would-be owners a ride with a “bold design, everyday practicality, and the confidence to go further.” Thanks to its DM-i technology, the vehicle is “built for city drives, weekend getaways, and everything in between.”
