DPWH: farmers now take advantage of newly-completed Zamboanga Sibugay FMR

The latest farm-to-market road now benefits residents of Barangay Basalem in Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay.

According to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 9 Director Cayamombao Dia, these farmers are now using a better farm-to-market road (FMR), which was constructed within 90 days.

Meanwhile, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar claimed that the newly-completed road will help farmers transport their agricultural products faster. “The completed Basalem Farm-to-Market Road greatly facilitated the speedy delivery of products, reducing travel time to 20 minutes from Barangay Basalem in the Municipality of Buug to the city center of Zamboanga Sibugay province,” Villar said. 

Costing about P12-million, the new FMR project in the said province covers concrete paving of 734.50 linear meters into a two-lane road with a 200 millimeter thick of portland cement concrete, construction of stone masonry and grouted riprap, and wide shoulder and gabions for slope protections features. 

Further, the FMR project—eyed to boost government’s program to reduce the transportation costs of farm outputs, minimize post-harvest loses, promote economic activities and develop trade and commerce—was undertaken by the DPWH Zamboanga Sibugay 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) under the convergence program with the Department of Agriculture (DA).
