Ford 2.0L bi-turbo diesel engine: striking balance between power and efficiency

Ford Philippines expressed firm belief that the 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine shows the balance between power, capability, and efficiency.

But what makes the mill — fitted in the next-generation Everest Titanium+ 4x4, Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 and the Ranger Raptor — fit for drivers traversing Philippines roads? Here’s what the Blue Oval’s local arm has to say.

Efficiency

According to Ford Philippines, the engine works by delivering torque and power through independent turbos. The 10-speed automatic gearbox complements the engine’s capacity by utilizing the optimal gear possible.

“Depending on how the vehicle is driven, it will utilize all gears to offer maximum fuel efficiency. If the driver decides to punch the accelerator pedal, it will skip-shift to give out higher performance,” the company explained.

Power

The aforementioned powertrain can provide a maximum of 207 horsepower and 500 Newton-meters of torque as well as a towing capacity of 3.5 tons. Aside from that, the engine comes with selectable drive modes to meet the needs of drivers — be it for towing, hauling, driving fast on a highway or off-roading.

Refinement

Although powerful, the 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine emits less noise compared to the previous generation — especially when the vehicle is idle. Per Ford Philippines, the engine’s structure was created to limit the noise by reducing significant noise-influencing components.

Durable

Further, Ford Philippines assures toughness with the 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel powertrain.

In developing the mill (which was launched worldwide some five years ago), the 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine had to undergo a total of 5.5 million kilometers of durability testing that include 400,000 kilometers at the hands of real customers, comprehensive analysis in laboratories and at Ford vehicle proving grounds.

Easy-to-maintain

Moreover, Ford Philippines that its offerings equipped with the bi-turbo diesel engine offer an exceptional advantage in terms of maintenance efficiency. The components of the oil system, from oil pan and filter dimensions, bore distortion tolerances and piston ring specifications that prolong the oil lifespan.

Additionally, the next-generation Ford Ranger and Everest also have an Intelligent Oil Life Monitor feature that tells the owner to have an oil change based on actual engine data, operating conditions, and owner driving habits.
