Gets 88.39 points in 2021-2025 protocol
The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) gave a five-star rating to the GAC Emzoom.
The Chinese automaker’s crossover — which is the first model from Guangzhou Automobile Group Company (GAC) to be assessed by the organization under the 2021–2025 assessment protocol — scored 88.39 points after getting 36.60 in the adult occupant protection category, 16.43 in child occupant protection, 17.86 in safety assist and 17.50 under the motorcyclist safety.
In a statement, evaluators noted that the rating was achieved as the tested Malaysian-spec version has the following safety features as standard: six airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, seatbelt reminder system for front occupants, autonomous emergency braking (AEB for city, inter-urban, motorcycle, and pedestrian), blind spot visualization (BSV) for driver and passenger sides, auto high beam and pedestrian protection technology.
Aside from that, the vehicle also comes with safety assist technologies such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning and lane keep assist.
“ASEAN NCAP is proud that the GAC made the leap of having its latest model, the GAC Emzoom, to undergo the ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 assessment. True to its commitment to safety, the GAC Emzoom has ensured a well-deserved safety performance from both its passive and active safety features offered in the model,” the ASEAN NCAP stated.
“Two of its safety features that will benefit motorcyclists are the BSV, which are equipped as standard on both the driver and passenger sides as well as the AEB for Motorcycle offered as standard fitment for all its variants. The technologies will indeed assist drivers in avoiding collisions with motorcycles either on the side or frontal part of the vehicle. Thus, ASEAN NCAP extends our congratulations to GAC Emzoom for its safety commitment by equipping the safety assist technologies as standard and achieving a five-star rating in its first assessment. ASEAN NCAP also wishes the brand name to continue its safety aspirations as we strive to halve road fatalities across the region,” it added.
