Hino Motors Philippines Corporation (HMP) has recreated the "Love Bus" — the blue-painted public utility bus with the heart-shaped logo that is considered to be one of the country’s icons of the yesteryear.

  • What Hino model was used to reinvent the iconic Love Bus?

The Japanese truck manufacturer's local arm used a Hino HS8J Low Floor City Bus to recreate the iconic public utility bus.
  • How many passengers can fit inside the Hino HS8J Low Floor City Bus?

HMP said that bus can carry up to 62 passengers — 36 seated and 26 standing.
  • In a statement, the company reinvented the classic people carrier using the HS8J Low Floor City Bus “to reignite the Love Bus nostalgia.” HMP also said the modern version of the bus is specifically-designed to offer smooth and pleasurable commutes for passengers in the city.

The Hino HS8J Low Floor Bus has a 375mm ground clearance, which ensures more stability while reducing sway and roll inside the cabin.

The vehicle also features a side-kneeling function that assures the ease of riding and alighting the vehicle as it can be lowered to the standard gutter height, as well as a larger flat-floor area, folding ramp for boarding and dedicated space for wheelchairs.

Further, the vehicle, which has the capacity to carry up to 62 passengers (36 seated, 26 standing), is fitted with side and front-facing seats.

HMP’s modern take on the Love Bus comes with an LED interior lighting, built-in 32-inch TV monitors, Denso air-conditioning system with Sharp Plasmacluster Ion Generator and antibacterial/antiviral interior panels.

The Hino Low Floor Bus is equipped with a J08E common rail, direct-inject Euro 4-rated engine matched to six-speed automatic transmission that delivers a maximum output 276hp and 824Nm. Providing the stopping power are front and rear auto adjusting disc brakes with anti-brake lock system.

“Hino is proud to offer this new HS8J Low Floor City Bus. As the only commercial vehicle brand in the country offering complete One-Stop Shop advantage for customers, Hino is ready and committed to support the Filipino entrepreneur. From truck chassis supply, to rear body design and production, special utility requirements and all the way through after-sales, we offer maximized uptime while minimizing costs. That’s Hino’s Total Support guarantee,” HMP President Mitsuharu Tabata was quoted as saying.
