How Long Does It Take Ferrari to Build a Bespoke Model?

If you think waiting for the final season of Game of Thrones was as excruciating as the torture scene of Ramsay Bolton and Theon Greyjoy, then perhaps you haven't talked to Enrico Galliera. He is the commercial and marketing head of Ferrari, and offers a real glimpse as to what real waiting for them is like: around five years.

According to an article in Autocar, Ferrari's unique, "bespoked" models have the longest waiting list of all our product lines," which can take around four to five years in the making.

There are two reasons for this: For one--they want to make sure that these models maintain their exclusivity, and two--they only have limited manpower to produce them. The result is that they only make two or three of them each year.

And if you add in a gargantuan price tag, customization, and an elitist mindset, then you get the best of what Ferrari can offer.

"The client has not only a unique car but a unique experience working with the designer in the process. It's the pinnacle of Ferrari," he commented.

Ferrari's "Cream of the crop"

Those who don't belong to the "special list" needn't apply though--the company only offers this to their list of top customers.

Galliera explained: "It is offered to top clients only. We receive requests from clients, and it won't be considered unless they are in a pool of our top 250 clients or so."

To date, the Italian firm's most recent one-off projects is the Ferrari P80/C. Based on the 488 GT3 race car, it took Ferrari around two and a half and three years to finish the model.

"This car was never going to be a road-legal car, so there were no limitations on what we could do," Galliera explained.
