The other car to make an appearance at MIAS 2024 is the Omoda 5 EV.Per the local wing of the Chinese car brand, the said off-roader was built with the safety of its occupants in mind. On that note, it is being touted here in the Philippines as a vehicle that “establishes an unprecedented level of off-road safety.”
Mobile fortress-like body
Jaecoo describes the body of the J7 as a mobile fortress-like.
Key to ita strong and sturdy build is the Jaecoo J7’s innovative energy-absorbing cage space capsule structure.
According to Jaecoo Philippines, the Jaecoo J7’s design is “lightweight, strong, and generously composed.” As a result, it envelopes passengers like a “steel cocoon.”
Key to the said design is the implementation of large-scale dual-impact beams that span the front of the crossover. Adding to that is an integrated composite stamping door frame.
Jaecoo also slapped the J7 with 10 airbags to increase the safety features of the vehicle.
Approximately over 80 percent of the Jaecoo J7’s body — the carmaker noted — is made up of high-strength steel. Its roof compression, for example, can carry decent loads while its torsional rigidity is at 23,000 Newton-meters per degree.
“It can withstand nearly eight tons of pressure without deformation,” Jaecoo said in a press release.
“This formidable structure not only ensures superior overall safety but also enhances driving performance to a certain extent,” it added.
Intelligent off-roader
The Jaecoo J7 is as smart as it is durable.
Jaecoo gave the vehicle a host of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS). These include blind spot detection, active emergency braking, door opening warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, intelligent evasion assist for large vehicles, rear collision warning, traffic sign recognition, and integrated cruise assist.
To execute the many ADAS functions fitted in the Jaecoo J7, it uses “a multi-functional front-view camera, two millimeter-wave radars, and a long-range millimeter-wave radar.”
“Jaecoo’s unwavering commitment is to provide high-quality off-road products. For this, Jaecoo persists in deep independent research, climbing new heights in urban off-road intelligent safety through technological innovation, creating a newer, smarter, and safer off-road experience for users,” Jaecoo said in a press statement.
The Jaecoo J7 will be showcased along side the Omoda 5 EV at the said motoring expo. Both Jaecoo and Omoda are brands under the Chery Auto umbrella.
