Jaguar Land Rover announces ‘Open Innovation’ strategy

Jaguar Land Rover announced on Wednesday, April 27, its newest business strategy named "Open Innovation." According to the British automotive marque, this new strategy will allow them to accelerate next-generation technology and sustainability and support its Modern Luxury vision for the business, its partners, and customers.

  • What initiatives does JLR plan in accordance with the Open Innovation strategy?

With the Open Innovation strategy, JLR will collaborate with like-minded businesses through an innovation hub in the UK as well as work with similar businesses in Latin America.
  • How many "champions" does JLR have?

Jaguar Land Rover has appointed over 70 champions to drive its new business strategy.
  • The announcement is part of Jaguar Land Rover’s Reimagine strategy: to be the creator of the world’s most desirable, luxury vehicles for the most discerning of customers.

“With the launch of the Open Innovation platform, Jaguar Land Rover is looking at the entire mobility and sustainability ecosystem to offer an unparalleled customer experience, shaping the future of our industry, and paving the way to the future. We will explore everything from second-life batteries and circular economy to new fintech, insurtech, and digital services — all aligned with Jaguar Land Rover as the proud creators of Modern Luxury,” said Jaguar Land Rover Strategy and Sustainability Executive Director François Dossa.

Under Open Innovation, Jaguar Land Rover looks to promote collaborations with start-ups, scale-ups, and like-minded external organizations on electrification, connectivity, digital services, metaverse, intelligent enterprise, manufacturing, supply chain, and sustainability.

In addition, Jaguar Land Rover will launch a first-of-its-kind innovation hub in the UK, in partnership with the corporate innovation platform and investor, Plug and Play.

Furthermore, Jaguar Land Rover will team up with Cubo Itau and Firjan in an effort to provide access to the vibrant Latin American start-up ecosystem.

Through Jaguar Land Rover’s new program, the company aims to identify digital services, products, tools, and processes that will further its goal of net-zero by 2039, while creating new value chains in the process.

Jaguar Land Rover has appointed over 70 “champions” from across key business areas — including sustainability, engineering, design, research, and manufacturing — that will serve as the company’s faces as they drive the Open Innovation strategy.
