The Malaysian Motorcycle Assessment Program (MyMAP) opened its doors to more motorcycle classifications after it moved to the second and third phases of testing.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What motorcycle engines are included in the Malaysian Motorcycle Assessment Program’s (MyMAP) second phase of testing?

MyMAP’s second phase of testing includes motorcycles with engines higher than 250 cubic centimeters.
  • What motorcycle engines are included in MyMAP’s third phase of testing?

MyMAP’s third phase of testing includes all motorcycle types with a diverse range of power combinations.
  • Per MyMAP, the initial stage of testing undertaken by the organization only assessed motorcycles with engines that have capacities of 250 cubic centimeters (cc) and lower. The second phase, on the other hand, will cater to motorbikes with over 250cc engines. And lastly, the third phase will cover all motorcycle types with a diverse range of power combinations.

“We have received many applications from large and hybrid-powered motorcycle manufacturers. Therefore, the third phase of participation was opened earlier than the expected time,” commented Research Center for Vehicle Safety and Biomechanics Director Zulhaidi Jawi.

With the opening of the two phases, it is hoped that more manufacturers will join MyMAP, which will indirectly encourage the penetration of technology into basic or affordable models.

To date, MyMAP has awarded five-star ratings to nine motorcycle models from various motorcycle manufacturers in Malaysia. These models include the Yamaha XMAX, Aveta VADV 150, and Modenas Ninja 250.
