Nissan to sell its employees electricity made from renewable energy

In a recent press release, Nissan announced that as a part of its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, the company will start selling its employees electricity made from 100-percent renewable energy. The initial run will cover Nissan’s employees living in the Kanto region at the beginning of the country’s 2022 fiscal year.

Nissan started selling electricity through selected dealerships to promote home-charging by EV users back in 2019, and the move to sell its employees electricity made from renewable sources allows the Japanese automotive company to take larger strides in achieving its goal.

To become carbon neutral throughout the life cycle of its products by 2050, Nissan is working on delivering zero emissions across all aspects of its operations, including development, manufacturing, and sales. According to Nissan, the company is also preparing a business model using electricity from renewable energy that leverages the high-capacity storage capabilities of its EV batteries.

In addition, Nissan said that it will also identify the ideal business partner to offer attractive power pricing plans to owners of Nissan EVs such as the Nissan Leaf and Nissan Ariya.

Positioning electrification at the core of its business, Nissan will use its wealth of experience to take a ground-breaking and comprehensive approach to accelerate initiatives toward achieving carbon neutrality.
