MANILA: Mobility Access Philippines Ventures, Incorporated (MAPVI), the local distributor of BYD mass-market vehicles, has joined the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID).

  • The latest development took place during the recently-concluded AVID Summit, where BYD Cars Philippines Managing Director Bob Palanca and BYD Philippines Country Head Adam Hu were present at the event. Following this, the group founded in 2010 now has nine members representing a total of 16 automotive brands.

    In a statement, the group shared that its newest expansion “further reinforces its role as a leading voice for a competitive, future-ready, and sustainable Philippine automotive industry.”

    Carmudi Philippines also received information the Palanca is now the AVID vice president, while Maria Fe Agudo still holds the group’s top position.

    During the program—themed “Steering Resilience in the Age of Geopolitical Shifts and the Era of Electrification”— AVID President Maria Fe Perez-Agudo highlighted the importance of leadership, adaptability, and collaboration in navigating the future of mobility.

    “The race is no longer about horsepower—it is about foresight, courage, and resilience. The future of mobility will be defined by those who can anticipate change, adapt quickly, and work together to build long-term competitiveness,” Agudo noted.

    “With our members, including the country’s leading electric vehicle brand, AVID is stronger than ever in advancing policies and partnerships that will help secure the Philippines’ place in the future of mobility.”

    She also emphasized the need for collective action in addressing industry disruption.

    “The challenge before us is clear: disruption must be given direction. Artificial intelligence must be harnessed as a national opportunity. Electrification must be seized as a Philippine advantage. Competitiveness can no longer be pursued by individual organizations alone—it requires collective action,” Agudo explained.
